Fanti and Maggiolo concluded the shroud image was created by a "corona discharge," understood as a radiant burst of light and energy that scorched the body image of the crucified man on the topmost fibers of the shroud's front and back sides, without producing any image on the centermost of its linen fibers.
"Imagine slicing a human hair lengthwise, from end to end, into 100 long thin slices; each slice one-tenth the width of a single red blood cell," writes Daniel Porter, editor of ShroudStory.com. "The images on the Shroud of Turin, at their thickest, are this thin."
Fanti and Maggiolo found the faint image of the face on the reverse side of the shroud contained the same 3D information contained in the face and body image of the crucified man seen on the shroud's front side.

Is there anything, anything, that was made in the 1300s that we can't make today?
If that is the case, and I believe it is, why is it we can't figure out a way to reproduce the shroud? Is it because it's not a fake? No, that is just too much for the skeptics to fathom. And so they keep imagining dark rooms with Michelangelo and some knowledge of photography and evey with all that they still can't make something with all the qualities of the shroud. It's a great, wonderful relic.

these folks have to try and discredit, not due to some noble feeling toward true scientific discovery, but due to the horror of what this shroud shows, and represents....

If that is the case, and I believe it is, why is it we can't figure out a way to reproduce the shroud? Why couldn't God make a Polaroid instead of a shroud?

A Polaroid is simple copared to the data evident in the Shroud. I do find it interesting that no one seems ready to include notions about dimesnion Time in the possible way the image was generated.

It’s just Medieval forgery by a painter who knew how to paint on single fibers on two surfaces.
The 1988 carbon-dating test PROVED that!

Those samples were not taken from the original fabric. That has been proven.

For some silly reason the tests were made from samples taken from
MEDEVIL PATCHES
and not from the original fabric.

My faith doesn’t put any store in relics and such, so whether it’s authentic or not, or supernatural or not, does not weigh all that heavily upon me.
But, it’s striking that the critics of the historical claims associated with the shroud are sounding less and less credible.
I guess the flip side of the coin is true as well: my faith is not threatened by the shroud being genuine, unlike certain materialists.

As my kids would tell you, I often miss that. Apologies for my inaccurate reaction. Thanks for pointing that out.

If it’s genuine, it’s certainly there for a good reason. I’m sure Jesus could have figured out how to rise from the dead without leaving images on the shroud, if He had wanted to!
In other words: If Jesus left an image of Himself—and not a painting, but an image created by “natural forces,” i.e., in a real sense, a photograph, and not just a photograph, but one that attests (because of the kinds of “natural forces” involved) to the reality of His Resurrection—then that is hardly a minor decision on His part, and hardly a peripheral part of the evidence for the truth of the Gospels.

Science Dictionary
corona discharge "An electrical discharge characterized by a corona, occurring when one of two conducting surfaces (such as electrodes) of differing voltages has a pointed shape, resulting in a highly concentrated electric field at its tip that ionizes the air (or other gas) around it. Corona discharge can result in power loss in the transmission of electric power, and is used in photocopying machines and air-purification devices. See also
electric arc."
Interesting, but I don't think Fanti and Maggiolo are breaking any new ground here. I remember a report years ago by some scientists who said that the shroud was scorched by an unidentified burst of energy, even giving a basic rundown on how that would have affected the shroud fibers.
I had always wondered about Jesus's warning to Mary Magdalene in John 20:17 to not touch or to hold Him. When she recognized Jesus and got excited, the first thing He said was a warning not to "hold" or "touch" Him - possibly to keep Mary back due to it being dangerous for a mortal in the flesh to have physical contact with Him at that particular time for some reason? Others have interpreted the passage as a gentle command to a grieving Mary to not fret and try to prevent Him from leaving.
However it was done, the fact remains that something very unusual happened to that stretch of cloth.

There was a thread on here back at Easter when the History Channel show was on. Some Romananian (??) gal discusses how the shroud may have been like a “mini creation”, something like a black hole. When the physics is “suspended”. Something about how the image is both on the front and back, but no flattening of the linen against the back - so the linen was not touching the body all the way around (no gravity).
Interesting stuff.
