A 9-year-old wire fox terrier named Ronnie was named local rescue organization spcaLA's Hero Dog of the Year in a ceremony held Tuesday.
Ronnie -- who lives with owners Janis and Eric Christensen and their two other dogs in the Orange County town of Rossmoor -- placed himself between a coyote and Janis, who was holding another of the family's dogs, when the coyote jumped a fence into the Christensens' backyard last August.
The coyote bit Ronnie, leaving him with two puncture wounds to the shoulder; Ronnie bit back and then chased the coyote until it disappeared from view

The coyote was likely leading the terrier into an ambush. This is how they kill dogs. Standard coyote tactic.
Apparently we can’t get enough of Jacks either. In the last 15 years or so we have had 10 of the little monsters. Half of those we bought the other half we rescued from bad homes, people who didn’t have a clue what they were getting into. WE have 3 now, our constant companions and we love them dearly. We do get a little tired of tossing that ball sometimes.
If I knew how to post pictures on my home page I would do it. I know how to send pictures to email but that is about the extent of my abilities.
That is the number of Jack Russels we have had but not all puppies at one time. I am not up to that!
Those Jacks are hyper in overdrive. Bad mix for me because I’m the same way. Too much energy in one place. LOL
Different wire haired terrier breeds were bred into the short haired ones over the years. Until recently JR’s were not recognized by the American Kennel Club. The reason was because breeders and owners didn't want to be forced to have a breed standard. Everyone had their favorite look, long legs, short legs, rough coat, smooth coat etc.
Bobo was our first long haired Jack and he was so wonderful and steady, that we searched until we found a breeder that had them.
My daughter had a Jack Russel. I don’t think they are dogs. I think they are crickets. How else could they jump straight up so high from a standing position?
Would you believe that one of mine cannot even jump DOWN from the bed? He is NOT a jumping Russel. Check out the rough coated Jacks if you can find them, they are an easier going bunch.
For small dogs, I’m partial to Boston Terriers. JRs are just too darned smart.
