Conservative does not need any qualifiers to make it sound more enlightened. If you are going to use one, the classic "rock-ribbed" is what it should be. Of course, those folks are few and far between, it appears.
There ain’t but one kind of Conservative that I will VOTE for... A REAGAN CONSERVATIVE!
LLS
“Common Sense”, in the sense that if you don’t win elections, you’re just making noise and making no sense.
Gotta keep whipping them.
So does that mean all the other Conservatives are stupid?
Compassionate Conservative = Liberal Republican.
40 years from now, people will be saying that there's only one kind of conservative that they will vote for - a TITUS QUINCTIUS CINCINNATUS CONSERVATIVE!
That would be slightly to the RIGHT of Reagan I guess?! :-)
LLS
TQC? Sounds like one of the shopping networks.
See? Pro-capitalism all the way.
Actually, yes.
Well one can used whatever moniker they want or like.... but the one who coined common sense conservatives recently, used it as meaning fiscal constraint and 10th admendment empowerment and interchanged it with the meaning of Reagan conservative.......If your guy, Duncan Hunter wants to used just conservative then fine....its no big deal.
LOL!
I have been thinking the same thing. Since I have been hearing that all the time for a while, I figured it must be the new buzz slogan BS.
Conservatives have common sense, so this is a foolish.
I’m just here to get on the list.
Good... I thought you were standing beside me.
LLS
I'm the one elbowing you with my left elbow.
You must not be one of those “common sense” kind. I need to go find out what it will take me to get some of that. LOL
I must be a foolish conservative.
Limp wristed, spineless RINO republicans are perpetually looking for a way to placate the NY TIMES! HARD CORE conservative should be the most popular title.
I are a dum conservative.
Halp us Jon MacAne!
I hate the phrase “common sense” as it is used in modern political discourse. Assumes you are right without bothering to prove anything. Palin uses it alot. I cringe when I hear it.
When I hear the phrase I start listening very carefully because usually it is a cover for some kind of demagoguery.
I wonder who conjured up that common sense crap?
If you find out, let me know, That is, if you can figger it out.
I guess they say it, because if a person has to ask them what they are talking about then you might look like you don’t have any common sense. LOL
I don’t think that “Common Sense Conservative” means the same thing as “Compassionate Conservative”.
So if you mean “new” as in “replacement for”, maybe so, but if you mean “new” as in “equivalent to”, not so much.
For what it’s worth, I seem to remember Sarah explaining what the difference was between a plain old conservative, and a “common sense” conservative, in her book. Maybe someone who has memorised it could enlighten us further.
Well whatever it is, it seems to be the new buzzword. I’m always skeptical of buzzwords.
Your post makes a lot of common sense.
It was compassionate too!
Barry uses it a lot to as in
We need common sense gun regulations.
“Let’s meet our responsibility to the citizens who sent us here. Let’s try common sense.
“In the coming weeks, the President will continue to work closely with Chairman Dodd and others to craft a strong, comprehensive financial reform bill that puts in place common sense rules of the road and robust safeguards for the benefit of consumers, closes loopholes, and ends the mentality of Too Big to Fail.
HA!!
BUMP
And rock-ribbed!
The “new” rock-ribbery!
Actually, this is needed.
So many conservatives said they were "revolutionaries" -- Reagan Revolution, Gingrich Revolution -- back in the Eighties and Nineties that it scared people.
"Common sense reform" is more accurate and doesn't give voters who aren't ideologically committed the heebie-jeebies in that way.
Just like compassionate conservative? It’s worthless i my book.
I don't think it's going to cause the same trouble with the "rock-ribbed" as compassionate conservatism did. Everybody knows there are practical and impractical people in both parties. And identifying oneself with commonsense never hurt a politician.
>> Palin uses it alot.
Yes, she does which may be the point of the thread.
Not much room left to the right of us.
LLS
Unfortunately this is becoming an apt description of pissant.
This is crap pissant. You aren't doing DeVore any favors and doing the rest of us little good either.
DeVore has a week to gain 10 points in the polls. If he does that, there isn't a person here who wouldn't say you aren't on track, but as that is unlikely in the extreme, you are probably just being a whiny spoil sport and you need to step back and think about what you are doing.
I’ll let RINO apologists like you pimp for Gnarly. I’ll send DeVore another donation in your honor.
Its your money. You need to discover where RINO country begins. You are pitching a fit when someone is Republican just not a paleo-conservative Republican and that does not a RINO make. If 50% is the middle.. then lets say anyone to the right of 40% is both conservative and Republican too.
Carly is in this camp. It is partially why the HP people around her hate her so, because she swept out the old HP that was part of a by-gone era and though she was hated, established the basis for HP to be one of the leading PC manufacturers today. Otherwise, they would have been gone like so many others.
As they say, you just have unrealistic expectations at this point.
But if you wish, max out on DeVore. Just remember, when that guy loses don't whine about it around here. Because you are just burning your money.
I think her tenure at HP was one of the worst performance I’ve seen at a major corporation.
I understand that. And the press and the old guard HP people hated her. CEO's aren't always loved, and the ones who don't insist on being loved are sometimes the best. The shareholders of HP got their value from Carly, but Carly ended up with taking the arrows that big boys and girls sometimes have to take when they undertake to do a job.
At HP, the question was whether HP could stay a family corporation or compete with the likes of Dell and IBM. Carly cut away the old family business, and this enraged many in the company who wanted things to stay the way they were.
Well I have news for you, where are Unisys? Amdall? Tandy? Texas Instruments? Prime? Digital? Data General? HP is one of the major PC manufactures today and its Carly's fault, like it or not. This is why people who understand such things understand her accomplishments when the papers and the media made her out to be a witch.
I understand such things. Which is why I know she sucked.
Before that, who was it that conjured up the "Stupid Party" label for the GOP? Hard to tell, since it was so obvious to everyone that none of the elected GOP people cared one bit about the party platform.
RINOs at the top since GHWB, and all the way down the ranks of elected people. With zero conservatives in leadership, it doesn't matter how many conservatives are elected, they will have to keep placating the RINOs at the top. And the Democrats will continue to set the agenda and win.
We can't get all the RINOs replaced, but if we can get some of them replaced with conservatives, AND get a solid conservative leader at the top of the party, one who will take the fight to the enemy, we can drag along the remaining limp-wristed RINOs, and perhaps save the nation.
Cantor didn’t think of the slogan. Some nitwit did and it sucks.
Now that is common sense I CAN believe in.
Now why would you think I would lack the common sense to belive Cantor was behind this?
Exactly.
And I am so pissed that I didn't make "the list."
Which “list”, compassionate or common sense?
