Internet giant Google today was hushing up the new dispute over President Obama’s strange Social Security number by diverting searches for news reports on the issue to unrelated stories about Elena Kagan, oil, Tampa and the Federal Reserve.

the original story may be old but there is quite a bit of buzz about this early this morning... so much so that it seems that google has intentionally misrouted searches for “obama social security number”

This “breaking news” has been out for months now, and there are at least seven(7) threads on this topic since May 11, 2010.

i believe the first two or three numbers of your ss number indicate the state in which you were born. for example, most new yorkers i know have ss numbers that begin with 0.

when there is a HUGE spike in google searches for a topic.. there is some explaination for it... just have not put my finger on it yet.. especially when google intentionally misroutes searches to “downplay” the buzz

I don’t know about the 14, but the people of CT will feel “blessed” that he is using their state number for SS.

It doesn’t show where you were born, but shows the state where you got the SS number, usually the first state in which you held a job. Now, however, kids need SS numbers to register for school, so people get them earlier. In any case, the first three digits indicate the place where you obtained the number.
