The death of Sex and the City
Guardian ^ | May 24, 2010 | Hadley Freeman

Posted on 05/24/2010 5:44:16 AM PDT by C19fan

I'm not asking for much. I just don't want to be sick in my mouth. I don't want to leave the cinema feeling like I've paid £7.50 to be mocked, patronised and kicked in the face. I don't want to be filled with despair at Hollywood's increasing inability to conceive of women in comedic films as anything other than self-obsessed babies with breasts. And I don't, most of all, want to spend two hours watching dreams and memories from my youth being trampled into humiliating self-parody. Is that too much to ask?

I would think death in "Sex and the City" would be all four sluts dying of AIDS but I will take this, hee hee.

The thing I don’t get about that show is Kristen Davis is the only one who is attractive. How are they supposed to be getting that much action? Are guys in NYC really that hard up?

Here's a science update for you....

Heterosexually transmitted AIDS was a myth created by gays to elicit support for funding.

It happens, but it's very rare.

My exposure to this little cultural artifact is somewhat limited. But what I have seen convinces me that this is a fantasy about 4 promiscuous gay men who live lives of great irresponsibility and enjoy having frequent sex with near strangers. I guess for marketing purposes they decided to hire actresses to play the gay men. I don’t see the appeal.

I saw a couple of shows, and couldn't stomach it anymore beyond that.

The show should actually be titled..."TRAMPS and The City"

I think she is pretty decent looking, definitely the best on that show. When she was in Couples Retreat she was 4th out of 4 for the female cast.

In a way, a slight way, the concept has reminded me of a rehash of the 3 Musketeers only for gays and fugly women. Dumas forgive me.

What elevated the show way above the normal chickflick tat, and way above the films, was that it had genuine emotional truth. It sang with lines that you knew had come from real life ("How can I have this baby? I barely had time to schedule this abortion" being quite possibly my all-time favourite)

Favorite. Hm. I think I know more about this reviewer now than I care to.

You got the tone down right. After the first couple of shows - years ago! They all behaved like SLUTS. I like a good series with ‘sexy’ story lines, but this was total ‘in your face’ Slutty-ness! Left a real bad taste.

Here is the complete series story line:

- Woman goes on date, has dinner, sleeps with him.
- Woman goes on date, sleeps with him.
- Woman meets guy, sleeps with him.

Same woman - but different guys!

Through 2007, about 175,000 AIDS cases in the US were heterosexually transmitted. That’s about 20% of the total. Internationally, the percentage of cases with heterosexual transmission is much higher. I’m not sure “rarely” is quite the right word.

Exactly!

I saw the trailer for SIC while waiting for Robin Hood to start (if you haven’t seen Robin Hood, yet, go see it! It’s a Conservative film for Tea Partiers). Anyway, the plot of the new SIC movie seems to be that these sluts go to Abu Dhabi for more sex.

No burkas, no male escorts...I do see them wearing a hijab in a couple of scenes, but that’s about it. Lot’s of hooking up with guys, though.

Nope, this isn’t about women, this is about gay men hiring women to act out their own (the gay men’s) fantasies.

Cheers

Of course I.V. drug users transmit it when they share their needles, but you are correct. Heterosexual AIDS is a myth.

Much like the queers, Africa realized that it could get on the AIDS bandwagon, by classifying everything from Malaria to Pregnancy as AIDS.

No surprise here. Just that it should have a more ‘correct’ title (TRAMPS and the City) to characterize the storyline.

I've been to Abu Dhabi. Beautiful city, but trust me, 4 sluts don't go around cruising for sex there. It would have been more believable if they had went to Bahrain. stuff happens there...

The CDC tracks IV transmissions separately from heterosexual transmissions. The 175,000 heterosexual transmissions excludes IV drug users. Do you have a better source than the CDC? Convincing heterosexuals that there is no risk of AIDS transmission from sexual intercourse is not a very good idea.

I read an article recently that many cases of “heterosexual” AIDS transmission to men disappeared when the researchers classified the cases as homosexual *for men who had anal STDs*.

Assinine looking “so called fashions” and ridiculous banter. Also, someone should tell carrie when she is not on the set that it is time to put the fantasy behind and move back into the real world. I’ve seen photos of her in mags etc and she looks ridiculous. Totally skinny to the point of sickly and wearing things best left to the YOUNG.

The CDC tracks IV transmissions separately from heterosexual transmissions. The 175,000 heterosexual transmissions excludes IV drug users.

The CDC also admits that it has no accurate way of diagnosing how the person contracted AIDS and that self identification was inaccurate upon closer study.

AIDS would be FAR more widespread if it wasn't for the fact that it's transmitted only though the most unusual activities.

Considering the amount of money the Federal Government spends (thought to be about 2 billion a year) on this rare and highly avoidable disease, people should at least know that those infected with it are going out of their way to get it.

Let’s see how long she remains in the public eye after this flop. She might be a flop too along with this silly movies but...Rush Limbaugh would NEVER say she should be taken out of movies. That is the difference between a conservative and a liberal. Time to get off the bandwagon jessica of when it was popular to bash bush. just gave you more press was all and your face on the news. Now whatcha gonna do? Movie tanked and in spite of the creams, skin treatments, fake this and fake that...you are STILL aging just like the rest of us. Hey, here’s an idea.
