Jurors on Wednesday found former Cape Carteret police chief, 57-year-old George Hayden, guilty of murder.
Hayden and two others are charged with killing Camp Lejeune Marine Sgt. William Miller 37 years ago.
Prosecutors believe Hayden lured Miller to a shopping center on Western Boulevard in 1972 and shot him several times with a high-caliber rifle. Vickie Babbitt, Miller's wife at the time of the murder, and Rodger Gill also face murder charges in Miller's death.
Prosecutors say a love triangle led to the shooting. Babbitt married Hayden four months after the murder.
One of the more interesting things about being an old fart is I remember a lot of this stuff ... albeit sometimes vaguely.
Sounds like a made for TV movie plot.
And it took 37 years to figure this out?
I was born that year. How come I wasn’t pinged?
“Prosecutors say a love triangle led to the shooting. Babbitt married Hayden four months after the murder.
And it took 37 years to figure this out?”
Prob figured it out that day and it took 37 years to battle it out with his lawyers.
How many lawyers does it take to roof a house? ONE, but you have to slice him very very thin...
I dont think so. They got a conviction in court not a plea bargain.
I figure it took a change in local politics. Maybe a new county prosecutor.
Just guessing, not being a local.
