Grumpy Old Man Attacks Toddler for Crying in Elevator
NBC Miami ^ | Tue, Jun 1, 2010 | Todd Wright

Someone else's crying kid can be annoying, but one man in Surfside took the matter into his own hands and now police are looking to get their hands on him.

The unidentified man allegedly grabbed, then slapped a 3-year-old girl for crying loudly while they were in a grocery store elevator earlier this month.

The grumpy old man then bolted out of the elevator and away from store employees as the mom frantically tried to explain what happened, surveillance video taken just after the incident shows. "He just went and grabbed at her face. And she says that her skin hurt from it. He just grabbed at her face, and he wouldn't take his hand off,"the child's mom told WSVN. The mom's other daughter, who was also in the elevator, was not attacked. The video doesn't show a good picture of the man's face, but police have put up flyers looking for the vigilante disciplinarian.

The suspect is described as a man in his 50s with a wrinkly, tanned face. He is around 6'3 and weighs about 180 pounds.

If you have information about the incident, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.

Get a bark collar for the brat. If it works on Fido it will work on this kid! :-)

If my kid was crying in a restaurant or library, I’d take him outside until he quiets down. If my kid is crying in a grocery store and I’m pushing a cart full of groceries, those around me can just suck it up. Kids cry. Big deal. Anyone other than me lays a finger on my crying kid and they’ll very quickly regret it.

Grumpy Old Man Attacks Toddler for Crying in Elevator

Although impractible for a couple of elevator transits per day...

The Grumpy Old Man might follow my regimen for surviving airline flights
full of crying babies and young kids intent of putting a shoe up
my, er, derriere.

Drugs. Over the counter drugs.
Diphenydramine (Dramimine) and/or Doxycycline (sp?) Succinate.
Both easily obtainable at WalMart in generic form at very reasonable prices.

Many is the time I’ve been deboarding a long (3-hour plus) flight and
have folks ask me how I survived one of the little screaming mee-mees
of civilian aviation travel.
I just tell them “Drugs”. Which I discovered due to my battle with
Meniere’s Disease (inner-ear dis-equilibrium).

There is a resturant we go to that does this too. It's awful when you go somewhere to enjoy yourself ad have to sit through 3o mintures or more of a howling child.

While I don't agree with what the man did I can say that back when I worked in a grocery store was when I decided I didn't want to have any of my own. There were a few who would start howling when they entered the door and not stop until Mommy bought them something and was on their way out the door.I was never allowed to do that in a store my Mother would stop shopping and remove us all to go home if any of us started acting like that.

People need to learn to control their brat kids. Why should the public at large have to listen to their whining and mewling and general misbehaviour?

You never cried, for any reason, when you were a kid?

My kids have cry in public, sometimes it's a fit, sometimes they're hurt. For fits, they are warned, then removed.

For hurt, sometimes crying doesn't stop.

Since the story says she was in an elevator, maybe the mom was trying to remove said kid from everyone else's earshot.

Now I know why my mother always carried a wickedly sharp hatpin when we went shopping. She used to say it was for mashers lol. But I bet she would have stabbed a grumpy old man with it in a flash had he touched one of her babies. If a child is cranky I wouldn’t take him/her shopping but sometimes children cry. You do your best to hush them. If any man or woman laid a hand on my child it wouldn’t be pretty.

No sympathy for baby-slappers. She should have ball-tapped him real good. He wouldn’t have run away so quickly.

“Fussy kids are worse than barking dogs. Parents, curb your kid.”

I agree 100%. There is nothing worse than a brat in public.

Perhaps you should go back and look at the comment to which I was replying. It was not in comment to the original article; it was in comment to the way someone’s mother handled a misbehaving child. They removed them from the situation and apologized to those that were being inconvenienced.

Context is everything.

“Oh, let me guess, you were never a little kid and YOU never cried.”

Unruliness in public in our house was unacceptable. It was either behave or stay home.

No one has the right to take their savage, unruly, uncontrollable, monsters out in public to ruin everyone’s day.

One of my grandkids went through about a six months stage where he cried every time my daughter took him to the grocery. Nothing helped, either punishment or treats. He outgrew it, thank heaven, but for a while the clerks all knew him by sight, LOL.

Preach!

It’s pretty clear that more and more children have been deprived of a proper upraising.
