This is a video of the surrender of Japan in WWII. I have never seen the video, only stills of the surrender. This is the first video I have seen of it and thought maybe FReepers would be interested in seeing it. It is what we used to call a News Reel, back in the day.

KEYWORDS: 1945; chainemail; japan; mcarthur; wwii
I think you will enjoy this if you are a history buff.

Back when we knew what the purpose of war was.

That’s so true, we knew we had to beat the crap out of our enemies. Did you watch the video? Very enlightening. Especially the footage of McArthur. Personally I would have executed every Japanese official on that ship, but that is just me.

A reminder that Americans can rise up and defeat enemies... both foreign and domestic.

A day that I was actually proud of the Untied States of America.

One day, we WILL see the total and unconditional surrender of the Marxist/Communist/Liberals in this country.

McArthur was an American Treasure and Truman was wrong during the Korean War. Had McArthur been given free reign there would be no divided Korea now and none of the trouble.

McArthur should have been president.

Thanks to both of you for the info. I lived through this stuff, although I was extremely young when it happened(born 1942, Jan), I grew up listening to it and to my relatives who served and about those who didn’t make it. All my friends had relatives, some of them parents, who had died or were horribly injured in WWII combat.

While I agree that McA had a huge ego, he was not a communist and had the American way of life as his ideology. Narcissist of not, he would have been a great President.

They didn't have digital video but they did have film and used it very extensively during the war, with a whole unit being dedicated to taking pictures and filming the war.

Try watching the "Color of War" videos narrated by Peter Coyote if you want an eye opener into the video of WWII.

You are welcome. I found it interesting that the tank they showed at the start of the video was the M3, possibly(more like certainly)the worse tank in use during the war.

Note the sub-moron comments, especially from the idiot who doubts that any Brits could have been there, even though the clip devotes a full minute to the non-US allies signing the surrender.

Not shown, but a great piece of trivia about the ceremony, was the posting on the Missouri at the top of the gangway of Commodore Perry’s flag (from his ship that sailed into Tokyo harbor)

Not responsible for comments that were uttered back in 1945. The whole Japanese surrender was mishandled in my opinion due to the way they handled the war criminals after the fact and that they required American(and other allied)troops to salute Japanese officers after the surrender was signed.

Wife and I visited Pearl Harbor and went aboard the Missouri just two months ago. There is a brass plate in the teak wood deck where MacArthur signed the documents, copies of the surrender and the Commodore Perry flag from 1854 on the port side deck.
The officers’ ward room with table service can be viewed and the control room with old radar scopes and modern computer controls for missiles is also accessible.
The Missouri had just been in dry dock for repainting and looked brand new. There is a tiny dent on one edge of the deck where a kamikaze hit and bounced off...
