Rahm Emanuel Throws Obama Under the Bus
Canada Free Press ^ | Wednesday, June 2, 2010 | Fred Dardick

Posted on 06/02/2010 10:59:33 AM PDT by FredDardick

Given the chance to fall on the Sestak sword for President Obama, Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel instead took off for Israel and left behind a note saying that Obama’s unpaid advisory job offer, as incentive for Democrat Joe Sestak to “avoid a divisive Senate primary”, was no biggie since past administrations practiced this type of sleazy politics all the time.

And oh, by the way, former President Bill Clinton is up to his eyeballs in it.

I have to admit, not the response from the Obama administration I was expecting.

Admitting to a misdemeanor in writing doesn’t exactly help Obama, so what exactly is going on here?

"Rahm Emanuel Throws Obama Under the Bus"

Well, it'll certainly be interesting to see if the ballerina can make this stick.

I don't understand. Just after he was elected, Barry S. promised us his administration would be DIFFERENT...

He PROMISED!

I'm pretty disppointed right now. All I can say is my faith in my moral and intellectual betters has been severly shaken...

I mean, who could POSSIBLY have foreseen that president Barry S. would turn out to be just another sleazy politician?

Who, I ask you? Who?

I'm beginning to hear apologists say that at worst Obama's actions are just misdemeanors. I don't think this gets Obama off the hook. The Constitution lists "treason, bribery, and other high crimes and misdemeanors" as the basis for impeachment. It seems to me that whole issue of felony/misdemeanor distinction does not apply to bribery but to another class of misdeeds. My reading of the text suggests that bribery on any criminal level can lead to impeachment.

It’s certainly true that prosecutors will happily forego prosecuting little fish if they’ll rat out bigger fish to fry. In that regard, Emanuel seems quite safe.

But there’s no way he’d throw Obama under the bus unless he thought it was safe to do so. That is, it won’t do Emanuel’s political career much good to be seen as taking down a promising president. The more honorable thing would be to fall on his sword and protect his master etc. But if Dems in Congress want Obama out of the way, perhaps Emanuel is grooming himself for returning to the House and finally getting what he really wanted out of life: to become Speaker of the House, elected by grateful Dems who wish to reward the man who saved their party.

Unfortunately, it’s too late for that.

Rahm Emanuel Throws 0bama Under the Bus

"... this would also put an important Senate race in doubt during a time Democrats are looking increasingly vulnerable in November, so no go there.

Plan B also has its problems. Like the Highlander, only without swords, there can be only one fall guy: Rahm Emanuel - the only other person in the administration that can give 0bama a run for his money when it comes to sleaze and an over-inflated sense of self.

Both were politically born and bred in the Chicago way, where stabbing a man in the back to save your own skin is what politicians call fun.

In “high crimes and misdemeanors,” the word “high” doesn’t mean severe. In this sense, “high” refers to crimes against the state. It is not to be taken literally, especially in a modern sense. It is a term from English common law going way back to the 14th Century that the founders used to describe serious breaches of the public trust or duty of office, usually for the benefit of the few to the injury of the state.

You or I, the little people, cannot be charged with this. It is only for those holding positions of power in government, and has historically only been used so. However, Obama is in a high position of power and trust, so anything that he does to violate the public trust or harm the state (bribery in elections), especially to the benefit of the few in power (Specter and the WH), can be considered to be among “high crimes and misdemeanors.” This is true even if it is technically only a minor crime on the books and not legally defined as bribery.

Last week, I opined that this was going to come down to Rahm Emanuel making the choice between keeping mum and going to jail for felony or plea a deal by naming the one who ordered him to offer the bribe, ie., his boss.

It looks as though I have my answer as to which way he will go.

Obama can try to throw Rahm Emanuel under the bus but it looks like Rahm knew to cover his own @$$ with Obama. Wasn’t there talk that he wanted to run for Governor of Illinois or something like that?

Rahm seemed perfectly ready to help Obama throw Israel under the bus. But maybe he’s having second thoughts.

It can’t be pleasant to visit the wailing wall in the company of his son, who is just coming of age, and having to have an armed guard because most Israelis hate his guts.

If Obongo throws Rahm under the bus he knows Rahm will make sure he chews him up and spits him out. Rahm isn’t going down unless he takes him with him. If I were Rahm, I would be watching my back.

I had not heard about that meaning of the word “high” before. Interesting. If what is being described about the actions of Obama and his subordinates is true, his actions would constitute either bribery or a “high” crime. I doubt one incident of this nature would lead to impeachment but if a pattern can be shown, Obama could have a lot of problems. If it can be established that the Obama people offered federal benefits in both Pennsylvania and Colorado (and perhaps more places), the stuff could hit the fan.
