Schedule an appointment with an optometrist tomorrow or apply for a job as an NBA ref. It wasn't even that close.

Are you Jim Joyce (the ump)?

The ump is referring inquiries to his lawyers - Dewey, Cheatum, and Howe ...

Sam, you are clearly an Indians fan or something. That call wasn’t even CLOSE to being correct.

‘bang bang’ my old butt! good grief, it was not close whatsoever......even after a possible ‘bobble’ was controlled in the 1B’s mitt.

Looks pretty definitive.

MLB needs to step up. The guy might never have another perfect game going into the ninth inning.

The thing that really hurts is that this moment in history cannot be taken back,. Whats done is done. Tough day for Tiger fans.

BTW, a future First Ballot Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. . retired from MLB as a player today, that is over shadowed to some degree by this blown call.

I think the ump screwed up but things happen pretty fast and we are human. Hopefully we can finally reign in the union thug chumps behind the plate and get electronic equipment for home plate (balls vs strikes)and instant replay for those really large blunders. I bet the umps union and mlb fall in line and back the Ump.

I am no Tiger fan but with all the crap the guys have been through over the seasons this is just so wrong. These guys cannot get a break. But they are only 4 games behind the Twins and 5 games ahead of the Sox and Royals and the Indians well what can one say about them but “Wild Thing, He Walks Everything!” I wonder how many bottles of Jack Daniels the announcers are going through each night at those games.

Good game Tigers. Better Umps next time.

The guy pitched a perfect game, so give it to him!

And there is precedent for MLB reversing calls and stats too, not only from that Yankee-Royals "Pine Tar" game, where game stats after the Ump made the call were temporarily wiped until MLB re-established Brett's home run as a stat, but that the game would be 'replayed' and 'continued' from that exact point in the game, thereby wiping out any stats which occurred afterward.

In the late 80's there were a bunch of "no-hitters" awarded to starting pitchers who didn't finish the game. They were called "Combined No-Hitters", where a relief pitcher would finish the 'no-hitter' for the starting pitcher .. the whole concept was ludicrous! In one case (I think it was my Yankees) a 'no-hitter' was awarded to a pitcher (Andy Hawkins?) who actually LOST the game on a bunch of walks and fielding errors ... but was awarded a No-Hitter nontheless!!!

MLB put a stop to all that ludicrous nonsense and completely wiped those 'records' from the books. They can do the same in this case, and really they should. The runner was OUT, clearly at any camera angle .. even the drunken guy up in the cheap seats could tell, albeit in triplicate :)

Ree-diculous.Award the perfect game to Gallarraga posthumously, or whatever the correct term is. I’m so mad that’s the only word I can think of right now.

It is called baseball. Bad calls happen all the time, but they do not always happen at such critical times.

At the same time, a bad pitch call by the umpire in this same game could have completely changed the outcome of the game. If the batter had one bad strike call, the next pitch could have been a home run.

“Kinda crazy that we’ve had 2 official perfect games, and another unofficial (this one) perfect game this season. I think there’s only been about 20 in all of MLB history. To have three in one year is unreal.”

I agree and when we had the 2 happen in a month’s time, I heard that previously the least amount of time between 2 of them was in the neighborhood of 2 years. To have 3 in 7 weeks time is astounding.

“I just watched the video several times and the runner sure looked like he beat the throw to me. Admittedly it was very close but obviously the right call by the umpire.”

Go back to DU troll!
