The pink rose is a wild Swamp Rose that grows in my yard. They will gradually take over but they're pretty and smell great. Domestic roses don't survive here without endless care. You cut the wild rose back with a lawnmower once a year to create new growth and stand back!
The tame rose is one I shot from the car in town.
Pinglist
Those are beautiful. Please add me to your ping list; thanks.
Very pretty. We ended up with five pink different light pink roses - the others all died. If I had to pick one, just one, it would be Felicite Parmentier - opens flat with a flushed center - looks more like a maiden’s blush than Maiden’s Blush - and such a scent, sweet and warm and dry and spicy, not the least cloying like so many...
The best of all is Mme. Hardy. RIP.
Different plant. You can eat the rose hips for vitamin C or make tea from the leaves but no berries. Blackberry flowers around here are mostly white with just a trace of pink.
The top one looks like what used to grow at my parents’ in upstate NY. We called them Swamp Apple Blossoms.
Gotcha!
This one is a true rose, Rosa palustris.
Good for the eyes and the soul.
Thanks. I’ve seen your amazing bird photos in the past and I always meant to get on your list. Procrastination time is finally over. :)

Felicite Parmentier
Great shots SS!!
I highly reccommend a good digital camera for retirement. I'd have been totally bonkers by now without photography. My physical problems aren't a handicap as they would be with many other things.
I hate TV with a passion, LOL Too many people who watch TV go nuts and become democrats!
Beautiful pictures. Thank you for posting them...we need all the beauty we can get these days!
Wow, gorgeous. I wonder if this one is available in California?
My sister got me a good digital camera a couple of years ago. When I took my computer in to get it de-virused in Jan., I somehow managed to mislay the cable that connects the camera to the harddive. I’m too stubborn to get a new one, since I’m convinced if I pull out all the stops I can find the old one. But I’m with you. Digital pictures are great!
PS: I generally keep it a deep dark secret, but I have no TV. Well, I have one but I use it only for the rare DVD viewing. So I’m with you on that one, lock, stock and barrel. ;)
Buy a cheap card reader, easier than messing with a cable.
Hey Swampsniper,
I have a question for you.
My daughter owns a Daycare school. She likes to hold a graduation for these little ones when their next move is onto Kindergarden. My youngest granddaughters graduation was last night.
There I was... all ready for this once in a lifetime event. I decided to use my long lens, Canon EF 70-200. I have used this lens many times and never had a problem or complaint with it’s results. NOT today. grrrrr I was ready to toss this $2,000 lens out of my truck window... ok, not really.
I received an Error message that informed me that the lens was not communicating with the camera. The instructions were to clean the contacts. Well, I did just that... several times and I could only get a couple of shots before failure.
Fortunately, my wife had a video camera recording the event and I simply used a different lens that I had with me.
I used alcohol on a patch to clean the contacts, but doing that never made a difference.
Might you have any other recommendations??
Oh, we have wild roses too... I like them because they add to the color out back.... nice shots.
Use a pencil eraser on the contacts, don’t use much pressure. The eraser has a little bit of pumice in it. Don’t let any crud get in the lens barrel. I change lenses a lot, it seems to keep the contacts clean. 3 of my lenses date from about 1985, old Minolta stuff, almost bulletproof.
Do they make a good Rose Hedge?
Thank you... I’ll give it a go.
BTW... hows your breathing. I have something similar, so I think about you often. Hang in there fellow lunger....
They should. Nothing could get through it without bleeding a lot! It spreads by underground runners
Like you, I do not get around well, do not like TV, and my digital camera is my friend. My pics are certainly nothing compared to your stuff, but, I have fun and am learning.
Got to take a test, I want one of the oxygen concentrators that will fill bottles. The insurance company requires a test. The medical supply people already ran the test, I qualify but the insurance people want a formal test. After about 50 feet of walking my blood oxygen starts dropping off the scale. I need exercise, a portable bottle will allow that. I’m getting too heavy even though I don’t eat much and my legs give me a hard time.
...rightly_dividing...could I please ask you. Could it possibly be IITimothy 2:15??
You got it. :)
Done deal, thanks!
OH!!!! I can’t even begin to tell you how happy I am to see you here...but I’m sure you already know this...Been reading Religion posts lately?
I have the small portable bottles and a large O2 concentrator. The bottles are a PIA so I don’t use them much... just when I am really hurting. Presently, I am fighting for the small portable concentrator, so that when I take my wife camping, I can walk away from the trailer.
If they don’t quickly decide that you scored low enough (I think it had to be 86 or less), insist that they test WHILE you are briskly walking... that’s what I had to do to score low enough. Stay at it.. don’t give up.. they will eventually yield.
Good luck to you....
Knock Out Roses. I have a garden of those. I love them. Thanks for the pics.
Please keep ‘em coming!
Swampsniper.... Look at all of those posts. None of them argumentative, none of them in anger or frustration.
I sure hope you know that you brighten our days with your art. You are doing good work... you are making a difference.
There... now I’ll move onto other threads and go back to my grumpy self. ;>)
LOL, if I just sit I get so mean that fleas won’t bite me. I can go watch birds or flowers and it clears my mind for a while.
Looks good. It is planting season up here, as much as I love better living through chemistry, I was looking for a plant that I could seed and forget, we have some really nasty winters, I live on the wrong side of a snow line.
It comes back from roots, should do OK.
Beautiful.
To be honest, I was hoping you’d suggest a nice fix. I have no idea what a card reader is, but one of my next projects is to find out. :)
A card reader has a USB plug on one end and slots to hold various memory cards on the other. They run about 15 bucks.
Lovely. Thanks.
Sounds like a deal! Thanks!
LOL I thought you were going to say that you finally used alcohol on yourself! Whew! Glad you stayed sober while working with such expensive equipment.
I never thought a 'reasonable cost' digital would come close to an SLR but your Sony seems to fit the bill. The closest Nikon SLR is the D3000 SLR Digital and that's $500 compared to $380.00.
Though the Nikon CoolPix P100 Digital Camera is kind of like the Sony with a lot of the same features and that's $380 too. But that Nikon has a very weird shape. The Sony is better looking.
Anyway, a very nice picture.
(1) I checked it out at B&H Photo where I order my Kodak Pro film from and this camera has excellent reviews.
My 'problem' with Digitals like the point and shoot ones is the LCD screen. Without a Viewfinder to look through, I'm lost. That's why I never use the camera on my cell phone, I can't frame the dang piocture :-)
Very nice!
The A200 was replaced with the A230, a slightly smaller chassis and simplified features.
LOL... had I had any with me.... LOL
Thanks, Your pictures are a lovely way to end the day.
