Legendary basketball coach John Wooden, 99, is gravely ill in hospital 99, several media outlets are reporting.
He reportedly not eaten for several days and is receiving care at UCLA Medical Center.
Damn. One of the greats.
God bless, Coach.
John Wooden is a legend..one of the greatest EVER! I hope that he somehow survives but it does not look good. God Bless John Wooden
Yeah I just read on Twitter AL Baby
Prayers go out to John
Bump
Prayers for Coach Wooden.
There are many things that are essential to arriving at true peace of mind, and one of the most important is faith, which cannot be acquired without prayer.
Prayers to you Coach.
Oh no. That is sad news. One of the greatest people in sports history. He has much to celebrate with his achievements and living a long 99 years.
Just read on the Laker board I go on that he has passed away..RIP Coach
Like Chick Hearn....
Class acts...from most accounts.
I could only wish..to be thought of like them.
As great a coach as he was he may be an even greater man. He truly changed the lives of the young men he came in contact with and without throwing chairs or cursing. He has made me feel proud to be a fellow Hoosier and happy to be a fan of college basketball.
Chicky baby was also a legend. I remember the day that he passed away, it was truly a sad day for the city and for the Laker organization. The last true legend here in LA is Vince Scully. I mentioned above that I had read that Wooden had passed away, it has NOT been confirmed yet, I hope that there is some miracle and he survives. Truly one of the greatest EVER

Depends upon your perspective. My mother's last words were, "I wanna go!"
Grew up listening to him...
Been to a World Series there..long time ago...1978 as I remember.

I attended his basketball camp in the early 70s. What a great coach and even greater man.
I still have a plaque with his pyramid of success.
A printable version is available at his official website:

Sad.
A legendary coach.
From that camp forward, I'm sure you never got blisters on your feet because of the way you put your socks on.
did coach Wooden in fact pass away ?
Nope, he’s still in “grave condition” according to the SI site- an ominous description, I’d say.
Washington Post has that headline, but, no story saying so just a slide show of his career.
thx
Bill Walton was on one of his leftist rants at UCLA about how he was gonna do this and that and after he finished. Wooden calmly said to him, “It was nice having you on the team, Bill”
Prayers up to Coach.

Bless you, John Wooden - as you have blessed us.
I had the privilege of meeting his son Jim last year. Needless to say, Jim loves and admires his father.

In my book, Wooden and Lombardi and 1 and 1a in terms of the greatest sports coaches ever.
Though I am sorry that Wooden might not be with us much longer (crossing fingers on this one!), he’s lived such a long and productive life that his legacy will never be forgotten. John Wooden is not only perhaps the greatest college basketball coach of all time, but also the one of the greatest sports coaches this world has ever seen, period.
Prayers for him.
I have to pull for Wooden. I always liked him. I can say that knowing he put together some of the best teams money could buy.
It was the most astounding (and uplifting) thing to hear, I’ll say. One can’t help but wonder what she beheld as she was speaking...
