Americans, I have some bad news for you:
You have the worst quality of life in the developed world -- by a wide margin.
If you had any idea of how people really lived in Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and many parts of Asia, you'd be rioting in the streets calling for a better life. In fact, the average Australian or Singaporean taxi driver has a much better standard of living than the typical American white-collar worker.
I know this because I am an American, and I escaped from the prison you call home.
I have lived all around the world, in wealthy countries and poor ones, and there is only one country I would never consider living in again: The United States of America. The mere thought of it fills me with dread.

Bye...bye. We won’t miss you.....and good luck when the bulk of this financial crisis REALLY hits the world (I’ll be here in the USA....where people help each other.)
This is so silly.
Oh, please.
Please explain your message to the Mexicans on our southern border,
Thank you
This guy seems to be a bit crazy, as well as overboard.
We do, however, have one thing in common.
I am so thankful that I was able to leave the USSA, and have no intention of ever returning.
While I enjoyed my years in Europe, I would not risk setting up permanent life there.
For now, I am quite happy in the Philippines, but it is not for everyone.
I’ve lived overseas (Panama, Europe). I’ve spent almost twenty years of my life in Europe. At the end of the day....as the sun sets....you basically realize the fundamental values of the US, the cost of living, and the ability to do what you desire outweigh any other country.
People will comment on the unsafe nature of Washington DC, Houston, Miami....in comparison with Stuttgart, London, and Copenhagen. I can drive 100 miles outside of each of the three American cities mentioned...and it’s just as safe as the European places mentioned.
If you’ve never been to Denmark...try going and buying a bottle of Jack Daniels. For what you pay in Denmark....you can buy three bottles of Jacky D’s in Davenport, Iowa. Try buying a car in Germany....and realizing the nineteen percent VAT is already in the price.
For every advantage that some guy wants to make of any place in Europe...I can pretty much win the argument against them. I will admit that a days drive on the Ring-of-Fire in Ireland lowers my blood pressure by ten percent. I will admit that beer of Germany can’t be equaled. But those are of a singular type value.
Reads like a highly sophisticated, upscale version of the kind of numbskull propaganda that came from PRAVDA in the 1960s, which painted vivid pictures of deluded Americans getting hypnotized by disco lights, etc. etc.
The only difference is that this piece seems at the service of and sponsored by what I’d have to call The International Real Estate Conspiracy.
I guess it all depends on where Lance’s priorities are. Personally I don’t want to be cared for, cradle to grave like an animal in a zoo.
I love this guy! Now if about 100 million libs/RINOs/moderates/mexicans, etc. would also understand that it is terrible living here.
I DO agree however with the writer's basic summation of financial servitude.
We do tend to entrap ourselves is financial debt.
"Consider this, you are the only people in the developed world without a single-payer health system."
We have a number of FReepers who live outside the US, either as natives of other countries or Americans living abroad. Those who choose to live outside the US have reasons for doing so, of course - work, missions, a foreign spouse - and find advantages in the place they live. However, nobody has made a case for any other country’s being superior, overall, to the US.
Had part ownership of a scuba diving venture (1990's) in Candelaria, Zambales. It took earthquakes, typhoons, the eruption of Mount Pinatubo, coming down with Typhoid, and the base closures at Clark and Subic to get me out of the country.
However, this clown really misses the mark when it comes to quality of life issues.
BTW - all over the world, for every 1000 protesters outside the front of a U.S. Embassy, 10000 are at the back door trying to bribe their way into America!
Maybe if we didn’t pull the worlds ass out of fires they created, we would’t need to work so damned hard and pay so many taxes.
Maybe if socialism hadn’t infected our government a hundred years ago, and government had not destroyed our families and medical system, many of the authors concerns would not exist.
It is the damned tax burden and massive growth of government that has forced too many Americans into two working parent families.
“However, nobody has made a case for any other countrys being superior, overall, to the US.”
You are right in that no country is superior, but Obammie’s puppet masters are just warming up.
See how life is after two more years.
I expect much of western civilization, as we know it, will crash over the next few years.

If we fall... you will not be able to eat bacon and your knees are going to get sore 5 times a day. Good luck... I mean that... and we don’t want you to come back here either.
