Hey guys, i have no dog in this fight. And I am surprised by the strength of opinion on the subject.

All I meant to say is I would not have let my daughter do this unless she was accompanied in some way.

No flame here just two simple statements. No intent to offend anyone.

As for Muslim Pirates, anyone could have harassed her. It would not necessarily be Muslims. It could have been anyone, some guy on a yatch or fishermen.

As for midtown Atlanta, a more apt analogy would be to have her walk through midtown Atlanta, alone, at three in the morning with no one else around, and then to say, "She's done it before. What could happen?"

But, that's just my opinion. I am not really all that interested or committed to this issue. Just glad she made it back safe.

Amelia Earhart would have been advised to stay home as well. It is not the peoples business to stop the ambitions of adventurers.

"How many of those Somali muslim savage pirates do you think could make it to 35 degrees south?".

LOL....most of these nanny-staters have no idea about where the Somali pirates are and where Abby's route was taking her....she'd be more likely to run into a Somali pirate in Venice on vacation. The girl had already sailed around Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope and had been on the seas since January.....these people act like her parents pushed her out of some marina in Southern California with no skills, training or knowledge. I think she would be the first to get around Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope without any sailing skills...LMAO at the stupidity.

But of course the toughest street fighting former special forces man with an AR-15 and a 1,000 rounds of ammo would be perfectly safe sailing up and down the Somali coast all alone. /s

I am getting a little tired of the constant critisism of teen girls lately. Its like all of a sudden, if they aren’t willing to take off around the world alone on the high seas then they are just sorry little sluts who pop out babies every 9 monthes. That is just not true. There are many many decent teen girls who are doing things to actually help people in the world. Maybe not by getting in the news but quietly working for the betterment of others. My 18 yr old grandaughter is one of those teens who popped out a baby but guess what. She graduated highschool with honors anyway and is now in college. She is going to be an RN. She is a great mother, never smoked a cigarette or took a drink or drugs in her life. Her parents are just ordinary folks who don’t have a lot of money to help her out but this girl and her babies father work hard providing a living for their little one. They have already bought a home. There are many many good decent teen girls in this country.

Lots of bad choices were made but she is ALIVE and SAFE thanks to a French trawler working the Southern Ocean. I think she had the skills to “go around” but the boat chosen for her was to fast and too much for her to handle. Remember, At around 36 to 38’ all the gear goes up 25 to 30% in weight and at 40’ everything is 30 to 40% bigger and heavier.

ROFLMAO!!

Courageous Boat Girl cost US taxpayors close to 1 million in rescue fees to Australian govt....

Oh, Puhleez...If you don’t want a Nanny State, let these courageous media whores plunk down a cool 2 million for rescue ahead of time in escrow should their courageous freedom thrill not work out so well!

actually now the famous alternative often posed here “ 16 yr old LA doper, ipod junkie prostitute” doesn’t sound as expensive for our country.

If she wants to sail the world and has proved to her mentors she can do it, let her try.

She hasn't proved she can do it yet. I really don't think her parents or anyone else has any idea just what she is facing out on the high seas. If anyone has ever seen Deadliest Catch, that might be just an inkling of what its like.

Geraldo Rivera unloaded on the parents and this young lady the other night, demanding the parents be arrested, bring in social services etc...

I had the misfortune of hearing that before I could get the channel changed. He ended one sentence with the words "kook family" and began the next with "they home schooled seven children." Pure left-wing propaganda.

The fact that they are Christains is all well and good. I applaud them but what Abby did does nothing to glorify God and thats what Christianity is all about.

Thank God TV is there to capture the rough seas of the North Pacific and Bering Seas where the majority of our weather systems are fired-up.

Or a convenience store in Michigan.

*No fame or fortune for her!

Life is cruel.*

Oh yes, it is! That’s what they were looking to get.
Too bad.

"She hasn't proved she can do it yet. I really don't think her parents or anyone else has any idea just what she is facing out on the high seas.

Good lord woman...she has been on the high seas since January....she has sailed around the tips of South America (Cape Horn) and Africa (Cape of Good Hope) already on this trip. Her older brother, at age 16-17 solo-circumnavigated the world recently. You act like these parents just went out and bought her a boat and said "good luck". I think they knew what they were doing but "sh## happens"...like a 60 foot wave. Some of the best/greatest adventures/explorers in the world have died...it goes with the territory. I agree...it would be "safer" if we kept all of our children at the 'Y' and playing video games at home with mommy fixing them a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in the background.....geez.
