Painter Of Light Arrested (Thomas Kinkade)
The Sacramento Bee ^

Posted on 06/15/2010 2:13:18 AM PDT by plinyelder

The painter of light is having a dark period.

Thomas Kinkade, the Placerville native who became one of the world's wealthiest artists with his sentimental landscapes and Christian motifs, has had a string of legal troubles.

His company owes millions of dollars to art gallery owners who successfully pressed fraud claims.

Earlier this month the firm filed for bankruptcy protection from those gallery owners and hundreds of other creditors.

And on Friday, the 52-year-old Kinkade, who calls himself "the painter of light," was arrested on a DUI charge outside Carmel, where he owns a home.

Seems like most ‘artists’ hate him?

I never could understand why?

Because most “artists” secretly want to be rich and famous.

But all other “artists” should be “starving artists.”

Their hatred, like most hatred, is rooted in “coveting.”

Don’t know about that, but does anyone know what the fraud case is about?

I always guessed most modern artist hated him because his art was loved by the “common man”.

His art did not offend the sensibilities of the traditional folk. It wasn’t dangerous and it did not challenge traditional values.

It was too commercial and expressed traditional themes.

In a few words it was not liberal.

If I remember correctly it was that he produced more than the contracted number of prints of his paintings.

The artsy-fartsy crowd hates him with a cold blue passion.

He laughs all the way to the bank.

“While not singling out [Thomas Kinkade] in its finding of fraud, the panel ruled that the Morgan Hill, Calif.-based company and one of its executives, Richard F. Barnett, “failed to disclose material information” that would have dissuaded Karen Hazlewood and Jeffrey Spinello from investing $122,000 to open the first of their two Virginia galleries in 1999.”

What's next- Bob Ross barricaded and in a shootout with the cops?

Gotta watch these painters man, all the time. Never turn your back.

Contemporary artists dislike Kinkaid because he is successful because his work sells to people who don`t care about most contemporary art. These artists make art that is `important` not for its beauty but because it is about the right subjects, usually bashing Christianity and conservative values. Their work is indeed sophisticated—it is art aimed at other artists. Kinkaid`s work is closer to illustration. I find it pleasant but repetitive, but nothing special, but it`s cool that his work pleases people. 99% of contemporary art is meant to annoy, and the artists then get angrier because no one wants these annoying objects.

This pretty much sums up why most modern "artists" hate Mr. Kinkade. Contrast what the images you posted to what passes for modern "art":

versus:

Jackson Pollock, who painted the crap on the right, is praised as a "great" "artist" even though what he paints looks like something most of our children can poop out.

Kinkade is clearly a talented painter. But his art has always been rather boring to me, kind of like the generic winter neighborhood scene that always adorns the fronts of Christmas cards.

I don’t get what the “fraud” is about, though. Producing more prints than contracted appears to be a contract issue, not a fraud issue. And the other—about opening the two galleries—just doesn’t make much sense.

Ummm.....
That would be a little difficult, since Bob Ross passed away on July 4, 1995 from cancer.
