I’m not buying it, My sisters and I didn’t get fat and we spent a lot of time home by ourselves.

How about poor diet and exercise choices?
Excuse-making is truly pathetic.
To: donna
Lack of attention, instruction, love; compensate by eating.
I believe it.

Do these “fat” families have stay-at-home fathers?

Well, thinking the world revolves around you and your sisters sure isn’t.

It makes no difference if everyone is gone to work.

Well, duh!
If society demands that the children of working mothers stay at home until the mother comes back home (for their safety, of course)... then they aren’t exactly going to have very many opportunities to get out and exercise.
I wonder how many millions were wasted on this *AMAZINGLY* obvious fact...

That's exactly what it is whether anyone wants to acknowledge it or not. Lots of the kids I grew up with had both parents working and I don't recall any of them being fat. There are plenty of real porker welfare moms who sit around with their chubby kids. The only difference is that the taxpayer is playing the role of breadwinner.
We were active and didn't eat a lot of crap. There was no cupboard full of junk food and it was rare for me to have more than a little change in my pocket to buy it on my own. We didn't have videogames, cable TV, or DVDs to watch. We had chores to do around the house and were on the move constantly.

No, the moms just sit all day in front of the tube eating bon bons./sarc
My wife was stay at home and WORK. Yeah we had secondhand clothes/furniture/cars but it was worth it. Two well balanced sons that really appreciated that she was there for them. She is loved/respected/envied for her cooking ability.
Through those years, when someone would ask, “Do you work?”. She would smile and say, “No, I’m just a just a homemaker”.
I think she’s awesome!

Cutting down on TV-watching and sugary / starchy junk does wonders.

I think the PC term now is domestic engineer instead of homemaker.
To: cripplecreek
Me either. If I gained 10 pounds for every year my Mother worked, I’d be Kate Smith.
To: James C. Bennett
Children aren’t born with that knowledge and mom isn’t around.

Mr. Mom
158,000
Estimated number of stay-at-home dads in 2009. These married fathers with children younger than 15 have remained out of the labor force for at least one year primarily so they can care for the family while their wives work outside the home. These fathers cared for 290,000 children. Among these stay-at-home dads, 59 percent had two or more children, and 57 percent had an annual family income of $50,000 or more.

Mom and dad still are responsible for what food is consumed at home, working or not.
To: James C. Bennett
That’s the point. Mom’s aren’t doing their job and everyone is getting fat.
