Just asking... Plenty of articles on here lately like the gentleman who painted a sign on a truck in his cornfield, and someone who didn't like the message set it ablaze.
If someone would like to reduce the reach and effectiveness of FreeRepublic 20% in a day or two, why bother with laws and FCC internet control etc. Why not just crash the servers?
What happens when they finally find an excuse to shut down FreeRepublic.com becuase of this, or something else concocted?
They can snap the largest opposition network off at the flick of a switch by labeling FR involved in a hate crime or death threat.
The same anonymity that gives us freedom will be used to isolate us. Don't think "if." You have to know that they WILL!
Stocking up on food? Ammo? How are you set for INFO?
Recommend you get off-line contacts to 5-6 trusted freepers via phone, sms, twitter, ham radio, bulletin boards! Anything off-the-grid.
We could....we should create local information pipelines for when (I don't think Bama deserves an "IF" anymore) FR is finally silenced for good.
And in that case, we'll need a way to re-direct everyone to a new meeting place. Look how lost everyone gets when FR goes down for technical problems. In fact....JimRob even advertises this very ironic fact by the toon with the skeleton waiting for FR to come back up during freepathons!

Surely you've found a few freepers you trust.
Freepmail them and see if they'd be willing to at least create a sideline webmail account independent of FR?

Then, you still retain anonymity, but have a place to send articles or get news in case things get ugly. If you feel comfortable, exchange phone numbers. Or get a skype number.

A DDoS attack was precisely what I thought of yesterday when FR was down for major portions of the day.
I was wondering myself, because I could not get on until late afternoon yesterday.
This is good advice.

I would say we have until November. If the RATS hold the House and Senate then go out and get that shortwave.
Waking up an hour before the wife on a weekend and logging on to FR has replaced the old days of the Sunday paper and a cup of coffee for me. Logging on and finding it aint there a bad start to a day.
