Posted on 06/22/2010 1:16:02 PM PDT by NJ_Tom
Ever since Saturday, 19Jun2010, I've been having a heck of a time accessing FR. I was unable to get on at all over the weekend, despite multiple attempts. Are we under attack by the Obamabots?
Thank you. I was wondering if the site had been shut down.
Time for another Freepathon to upgrade the servers.
good questions... i also have slow sign on
I am having similar problems
Its been a little slow at times but otherwise I’m good here.
Same here...my guess is a major cyber attack. Typical leftist thugs...they know they lose the arguments, so their solution? No discussion...
Sometimes they tell us what’s up, sometimes they don’t.
I’m seeing exactly the same. Very slow response time. Especially when I first try to get into FR. It takes FOREVER to open. Been that way since Sunday morning for me. THis is Tuesday afternoon. That’s a long time. I don’t recall having a problem linger for so long a time. Makes we wonder if there could be something going on with the Internet. However, every other web site I access — the response time is normal for me. . Only FR seems slow as molasses.
There is a quick fix yo can run f om you e
Be s re to set the pro rties into sea ch erms th d ju d mn ecks th erteri fic
I’m in Atl and now at full speed.
I thought it was my computer. At work FR is fine, but on my home computer I keep getting error messages.
My firewall is blocking Free Republic. I can load when the firewall is down.
Very slow and herky jerky here
LOL, no Paul-bots and Romney-bots....just kidding.
I’ve been able to access by going to google then to “forum news/activism.”
Remember that Free Republic has a back up board over on Yahoo.
I have had problems accessing on one of the home PC’s but not on the other in the next room.
You can visit us over at altfreerepublic when you have trouble reaching FR.
Up until an hour or so ago my MacBook Pro would take 1-2 minutes to load a page, now it works fine. I got out my slow as molasses Dell last night and it worked fine. I don’t know what it means.
Running like crap for me too.
Running like crap for me too.
Ah c’mon, 21 posts and no one has asked you if you’re logged in?
I couldn’t get on for most of the weekend - then I got in sort of accidentally while searching for some info. The site worked fine that way - but whenever I tried to use my favorited bookmark, I couldn’t get on.
I just saved a new favorited bookmark and that seems to work.
Running slow today though.
My suggestion, clear your cache frequently. They must be having a problem with the way the serving is handling the client-server handshakes. A cleared cache seems to make it work more efficiently.
Same here. Very slow.
It’s taking me around 2 1/2 minutes for every link before it comes up.
I may have to give it up for a while...hate to do it, though.
Wosy, wowsy, thanks for that link, zippin’ along high speed with that address.
Is this permanent?
Should I replace my bookmark?
Too many blogpimps and celebrity worshipers.
And not enough pie.
I just went to the altfreerepublic site and got a message that I was permanently banned from the site for spamming.
Never went there before, probably won’t go back (why bother if I’m banned)
FR is very, very, very slow to load. I have to be very careful what topics I pick as I can only read about 1/4 of what I normally do.
Clogged by Mac gayness, no doubt.
You have not been banned at altfreerepublic! There have only been 2 who have ever been banned and you’re not one of them.
I couldn’t get on at all on Sunday. I figured it was some sort of prank b/c of Father’s Day or something (although I’m not sure how that is related...anyway). Was slow yesterday but working fine now.
It’s been offered as a solution on several threads.
Me, personally.....I can access FR both at home and at work using my normal bookmark with no problem....It can be a tad slow, but I can get in without using the different IP address.
Obviously, there is a problem that I’m certain that is being addressed. I’ve noticed a couple of things lately. You don’t get to see the numbe rof views on each thread. Seen that before. If you click on a posters profile page, if they had a state flag, it’s now missing. And the pager icon at the top of the page is missing......

Karen Reid Stanley John Robinson Site update: one of the main machines blew a gasket, it is totally unresponsive. I’m converting a box to take over it’s duties. I needed SLEEP last night otherwise this would be done by now.

It’s not the money. I mentioned it because if John has to buy some new hardware and drive up to San Jose to install it, we’d probably be down all day. But looks like he’s now patching up a temporary workaround and he may have FR limping along so it won’t be totally down while he troubleshoots and rebuilds the failed systems.

The main server crashed hard last night. John tried to bring it up on a different box, but was unsuccessful. He’s trying again now. If it doesn’t work, we may need to replace some hardware. Sorry about the down time.

Yeah, but how’s your computer?
Also your link won’t let me select the “comments” and “headers” tabs at the same time. My bookmark does, but man is it slow.
All day yesterday I could not get on.....
Same here. I haven't tried it at home today, but I know it was giving me all sorts of trouble this past weekend at home. I just assumed the site was down. It works fine at work though.
When I type www.freerepublic.com in the address box it will not access freerepublic at all.
I have to search for it in startpage or scroogle and then click on a link that has the numerical website marker to access it.
This is the only website I’ve ever had that problem with.
It is happening on every computer I have...all running firefox.
Windows people: learn how to run the command prompt and use ipconfig /flushdns. Mac people: there is an equivalent command. Google for it.
What will these FReepers do if there is REALLY a shutdown of the Web?
Hey man. What’s been going on? :o)
Tell us what to do when dns flush doesn’t work. (It didn’t for me, and I’m not the only one.)
