The scariest pool in the world, 55 stories above ground

The "Sands Skypark" in Singapore is a pool, greenway and casino with an usual location. The whole thing sits atop not one, but three skyscrapers that make up the Marina Bay Sands hotel. The infinity pool itself is nearly 500 feet in length and features no discernible edge. So what would happen if you swam over?

Don't worry, you wouldn't just plummet to the streets below. Instead, you'd fall where the rest of the water does: a basin that also acts as a filter for the water and sends it back up to the pool. Sounds pleasant, right? We haven't see a picture of it, but we imagine you just get right out of that basin yourself, rather than get forced around in tubes Willy Wonka-style.

The skypark, designed by architect Moshe Sadie, is itself is nearly 1,250 feet long, and is a new addition to the $6 billion dollar hotel. An interesting note: the hotel-topping casino is free for visitors, but residents of Singapore have to pay a $70 entrance fee as the government there is trying to discourage gambling.

I noticed in the pictures that there weren’t any swimmers except for one photo op and there were NO people on the deck lounges of the pool. I wouldn’t be there either.

This project for this hotel/casino got started in 2006. It was supposed to be finished in 2009 but delays pushed the date forward. And here it is 2010 and its open for business.

And the WTC is still a hole in the ground.

I watched that show on the building of this with my kids. Very cool. We were waiting to see how it turned out.

We live in the NY metro area, so we're used to major buildings, like Ground Zero, never ever ever being finished, if they're ever even started.

When I see that structure on top of the vertical buildings, I'm reminded of the space resort in the movie Fifth Element. One comment at the site you posted said the resort make him think of Noah's Ark, stuck after the waters receded. ;o)

There used to be a time when innovation like this happened in America on a regular basis. Now it is a rarity as anything like this proposed here is immediately scaled down or quashed entirely by over-regulation, over-taxation, etc.

By this time next year, the United States won't even have the capability for manned space travel and nobody seems to care. Instead of encouraging our children to get engineering degrees and change the world, they are getting liberal arts degrees and going on welfare.

Swimming there with the 500 feet long track must be awesome. Our tracks here are all 25 metres. 15 Strokes and you have to turn again. Almost pointless.

At one of the links, it says you can buy a ticket to go up there and admire the view, but not to use the pool unless you’re a hotel guest.
