I just received new that my father passed away a couple of days ago. I am in Japan, so the news came very late. He was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer a couple of weeks ago. From the email I received, it said he went out strong and quickly.

I’m sorry for you and your family. I’m praying for you and for them. My father passed away last November from a rather suddenly appearing non-small cell carcinoma of the lungs.

I am so sorry for your loss.
I was far away when my dad died, too - wished I could have said good-bye.
I pray that you will be strong for your family.

Condolences and prayers for you and your family.

I missed being there when my father died as well. It’s hard. I had a dream of him shortly afterwards, it was like a still, formal portrait. He was dressed in a familiar suit and tie and looking very healthy, gazing off into the distance.

It was as if he had sent me a formal portrait of himself in farewell. The dream was a great blessing.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Perhaps there is some comfort in knowing that he did not suffer much or long? I pray your family finds peace in the faith that this is not our home, it is where we find our way home, and that we’ll all be together again in paradise.

I was deployed (Desert Storm), when my father passed suddenly. Got back to the states within a couple of days still in time for the funeral. When we went through his things, I found a huge scrapbook and clippings covering my brother's and my deployments and accomplishments ever since we enlisted in the Navy. It was heart wrenching, and we both were so humbled that our father, a WWII Japanese occupation, Korea, and Vietnam USMC vet, honored us so much by his remembrance.

Prayers for you and your family.

May The Creator keep you and your family safe in this time of turmoil.

My Father died two weeks shy of four years ago. I will never be the same. My world shifted that day.

I still talk to him and I hear echos from the past in reply. There is a poem that helps me sometimes...

I did not die
by Melinda Sue Pacho

Do not stand at my grave and forever weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints on snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn’s rain
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night
Do not stand at my grave and forever cry
I am not there. I did not die.

My sympathies to you and your family.

Outlaw76, you post has me tearful. My Father passed away on June 19 and we buried him this past Friday. He was 86 and lived a full life and he left a legacy of 6 children, 16 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. I chose this same poem, “I did not die,” for his remembrance folder.

My Father also had lung cancer which he fought valiantly for four years. He was dignified and brave to the end and I will miss him dearly.

The Rose Still Grows Beyond The Wall
By A.L. Frank

Near shady wall a rose once grew,
Budded and blossomed in God’s free light,
Watered and fed by morning dew,
Shedding its sweetness day and night.

As it grew and blossomed, fair and tall,
Slowly rising to loftier height,
It came to a crevice in the wall
Through which there shone a beam of light.

Onward it crept with added strength;
With never a thought of fear or pride.
It followed the light through the crevice’s length
And unfolded itself on the other side.

The light, the dew, the broadening view
Were found the same as they were before;
And it lost itself in beauties new,
Breathing its fragrance more and more.

Shall claim of death cause us to grieve,
And make our courage faint or fall?
Nay; let us faith and hope receive;
The rose still grows beyond the wall,

Scattering fragrance far and wide,
Just as it did in days of yore,
Just as it did on the other side,
Just as it will forevermore.

My great grand Aunt Lou gave me this poem about a year before she died and I treasure it.

That was a beautiful memorial tribute to your Dad. You should be so proud of him.

If it's any consolution to you, the fact you weren't there to see him at the end is a mixed blessing.

I pray you will always remember him as he was before the cancer took him. He'd want that.
