I've been wanting to post this for awhile--a thread that praises the regular threads that keep me coming back to FR. I invite folks to respond by adding their comments on FR regular threads (no more than three) that they think deserve the spotlight. Please, don't publicize your own thread, and if I or someone else has already posted a thread, don't just repeat it.
What does this have to do with this thread?
Nothing much, except that I think these three threads are different ways of dealing with the things that really bring us all together--on the most basic, human level.
Withuot these three threads, I might have given up and walked off in a huff more than once. But when i check these out, I cool off, get my bearings, and realize that there are things that really do unite us--and not just political ideas.
The three threads that keep me coming back are:
ASTRONOMY PICTURE OF THE DAY
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2546308/posts
Believers or non-believers should check this out whenever each new thread is posted, to appreciate the awesome beauty of our universe and the excellence of our space program and those who make it happen. Just marvelous images that help put things in perspective.
TODAY'S TOONS
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2545739/posts
The sheer WORK that goes into this thread is astonishing, but the quality level is so high that you just sit back and scroll through and laugh. So much fun, yet often so true. "Pookie" combines fun with political truth--what's better than that?
DUmmie FUnnies
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2545704/posts
With no offense intended to anyone else, this thread is the single greatest thing I've found on FR. "P-J" and his cowriters have NEVER run a thread I didn't get at least one or two big laughs out of, as they skewer the silliness of the loony leftists.
What are some of your faves, and why?
I’m sorry I didn’t do the little thing that makes those links click-able—I’m an old man who didn’t even have a computer until 2001 (when I first found FR).
Ping—and thanks!
Caption This and the Separated at birth threads are always a hoot.
Ah, people who are beyond the Stone Age-level understand I have! Thank you both.
I’ve seen too many SCARY separated at births—some days I jes’ can’t take ‘em! (Especially where H—— T and Nancy Pelosi are involved...)
Tolik’s “Nailed It!” threads/pings were always good. What happened to him?
Darkwolf - I knew and appreciate two of the three threads you listed. I really enjoy the astronomy and PJ at DummieFunnies. I’ll have to check the ‘Toons thread. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks for taking the time to call attention to those folks. I also appreciate the threads on archeology - history. They seem to come along at just the right time.
Wow I’d forgotten about those. Some folks just disappear, I guess. Yes, they always drew attentino to particularly on-target comments/commentary.
If I had an exta spot I'd have drawn people to the Classical Music Ping List by sitetest, but I didn't, so I couldn't. ;) But you can FReepmail him to be put on it, I bet.
I've been making a joke about it but I know it's really annoying to read all the grammatical errors in my posts lately, for which i apologize. I've gotten out of the habit of previewing, and my appointment for contacts is two weeks away, so brae whti em and snoo all will be ko! :P
Just hit the “Return” key afterwards to make it a clickable link. :)
That's way to complicated. I need one of those keyboards that like TALKS to me, "Now push that key over there--no, ya dope, THAT one!" :)
I think I found that archaeology/history thread. I think it is Graves Gods and Glyphs: http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/godsgravesglyphs/index
That’s the one. Very cool stuff about lost civilisations and such.
I keep coming back each night just to see if DannyH has fiinally gotten some respect.
What she’s trying to say is not to use any html at all, other than entering a complete web address, and the automatic “auto detect html” function on FR will take care of the rest.
If you use any other html, though, it’ll assume you’re going to manually enter tags and you’ll have to go through the whole hyperlink rigamarole in addition to the actual web address, to get the link to work, and will have to manually tag for line breaks, paragraphs and all that.
Danny H was so canned he had a tinny echo, lol.
