MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.- U.S. experts said a planned wedding at a Michigan T.J. Maxx store is just the latest in a growing trend of retail weddings nationwide.
Rebecca Dolgin, executive editor of wedding Web site theknot.com, said the upcoming nuptials between Lisa Satayut and Drew Ellis at the Mount Pleasant, Mich., T.J. Maxx is the latest in a growing trend that has seen weddings held at locations including Home Depot, Taco Bell and other businesses, USA Today reported Thursday.
"Brides are obsessed with making their wedding different from anyone else's," Dolgin said. "In some cases, too, I think the economy might play into it, where people are really trying to be resourceful."
Home Depot spokeswoman Kathryn Gallagher said U.S. locations have hosted about a half-dozen weddings and the store does not charge couples for the service. She said materials used during the ceremonies, including wood for pews, can be returned to the shelves after the weddings.

I think more thought goes into the wedding then the marriage. I also don't think I'd go to a wedding at Taco Bell.

“I think more thought goes into the wedding then the marriage.”
This is probably quite true, especially when you factor in the honeymoon destination and associated trip planning. Sad.
It looks like they had many rehearsal dinners at that Wafle House.
That is the bride????
I’d sooner be having a noose put around my neck instead of that tie.

More traditional venues are very costly so perhaps it's the economy. Perhaps Taco Bell is where the couples met. Perhaps it's just idiocy.
I can't understand the tens of thousands of dollars spent on weddings now days. Sure, it's been years ago but I made sure we spent as little as possible while still having a nice ceremony. With everything (from cake, to pastor, to venue, to garter belt and groom's suit), mine cost $500 and it was MUCH nicer than my friend's who was married two weeks later in a $2000 gown.
More often than not, by the time the wedding takes place, the children and the honeymoon are past history.
Stuff like this makes me wonder why we are worried about preserving the sanctity of marriage.
Brides are obsessed with making their wedding different from anyone else’s”
If they want to be truly different, they could actually get married in a church with a real minister officiating. Weddings don’t need to be expensive. The emphasis is all upside down. Buy a simple band ring, a few flowers from the local florist, a garter, simple dress. Get the license, gather the groom, family and a minister and you’re good to go.
