I haven’t really kept up with F1 for the past decade. While it’s good to see Silverstone is still hosting F1 events, I always enjoyed the GP at Brands Hatch over Silverstone (they alternated between the courses for a while if I remember correctly).

Just looked at Wiki, it says engines all are V8s. Too bad, no more V12 engines from Ferrari, Alfa or Matra screaming around the course. Incidentally, the sound from the V12 Matra was the best ever (just my opinion of course, but seconded by a lot of others).

I only attended two GPs, which were the USGP at Watkins Glen in 1977 & 1978. The highpoint for me was being able to buy a paddock pass for $20.

The teams pushed the cars out off the garage and onto the grassy areas on the sides of the garage when they worked on the cars. With the paddock pass I was able to walk around to the sides of the garage where they were working and stood 8 to 10 feet away from the Ferraris, Lotuses, etc as the mechanics tuned them up. For an F1 fan it was heaven being that close to the Ferraris V12s, Cosworth V8s, etc as they revved them up. Can you do stuff like that now? It was pretty informal back then.

I’ll just correct my post above. While the Matra engines were V12s, the Ferrari and Alfa engines of the 70s were flat 12s, not V12s.

Peugeot had a V-10 in the McClaren in 1994 and in other cars after that. It sound pretty cool but not like a 12. I remember Mika Hakkinen in it pushing for all it was worth. A young Mika shocked Senna when he was faster than him. Looks like it might be a good weekend for Espania/Alonso. Vettel Vettel Vettel!

the Matras were world class ear splitters alright and the 16 cylinder Honda was a real Banshee at the time

Now Vettal is 8/10 over the next fastest team's car, gee this is going to be a cake walk for Red Bull unless they come up with another way to lose a race.

Vettel Vettel!

I don’t know. Senor Alonso may have something to say about it.

Sadly I cancelled TV and there is no decent web feed. I refuse to give money to the networks and TV spewing endless propaganda for O.

Thanks. There is a little controversy because Newey told them to give Vettel the new nose with aero tweaks. Webber’s not too happy. Christian Horner said both of them tried the new nose and it was inconclusive.

Whenever I listen to Horner - he was born in England but I swear he is German or Austrian.

I think Horner has probably told them do not race each other. If Vettel wins it may soon be the time when Webber will be told for the balance of the year he needs to support Vettel for the WC.

I wonder if Webber has a deal for next year or if Kimi has that seat.
