I am not Mormon, but I lived amoung them for many years in Western NM. Part of that time I was Republican County Chairman, in a county where the Dem to Rep ration was 4-1.

Catron or Socorro County? I used to spend a lot of time down in that area - mostly Datil and Magadalena.

I was in Grant County, in the mining district. Lived in Silver City (1972-1986), but traveled Southern NM and Southeastern AZ for many years.

Catron was neighboring county.

We loved the area, but it was a real education for a West Texas native to live in a Mine Union Town. Genuine lefties were common, especially at the university.

The late 1970’s and early 1980’s were my first exposure to “Liberation Theology” proponents. (from Nicaragua) I got an advanced degree in Leftology during my stint in local government and as County Chairman there.
