Skip to comments.Oh my: Mel Gibson tapes might have been doctored

Huh. Well then, I’m eager to discover from what context “Ill burn the goddamn house up, but blow me first” might have been unfairly ripped.
Second look at Mel Gibson’s sanity?
Forensic audio and video experts examined the recordings for HollywoodLife.com and believe someone tampered with them, editing the audio, removing parts of conversation and piecing together phrases to make the recordings sound real.
“One of the things that you have to know is that nobody at this point can authenticate it’s Mel’s voice — not 100 percent,” Bonnie Fuller, editor of HollywoodLife.com, said on “Good Morning America” today. “There are words that are edited out, there are spaces, there are gaps.”
“I believe these are professionally done. I think she had help,” said forensic audio expert Arlo West. “She clearly was speaking into what we call a large diaphragm microphone. Her voice is very well engineered. She sounds great.”
She really does. Here’s the latest tape from Radar; it occurred to me after listening to the first one a few days ago that her voice sounded unusually crisp, even with the mic being on her side of the phone, but maybe it’s a little too crisp. Two issues for the cops who are combing through the tapes in hopes of using them against him, then. First, if they’ve been edited, then they’re obviously not true and correct copies and can’t be admitted. Second and more problematically, California law requires both parties’ consent before a conversation can be recorded. Is Mad Max so mad that he actually agreed to let Grigorieva tape him?
If you missed it in Headlines, this Time mag piece on therapists’ reaction to audio of the calls is grimly fascinating. Most of them aren’t surprised, but one worries that this degree of rage is “dangerous” and “not typical” and another says, “I’ll bet every penny I’ve ever made that he was abusive in all his previous relationships.” For what it’s worth, according to Mel’s ex, she’d lose that bet. Exit question: Is this pushback about the tapes being doctored really just Mel’s way of planting a tiny enough seed of doubt in the public’s mind to save his career? E.g., “Honey, I don’t want to see the new Mel Gibson movie. Didn’t you hear those tapes?” “But baby — he says the tapes were doctored.”
My computer won’t let me do AV stuff so all I’ve heard was from the local talk radio show while I was working, but from what I heard it sounded like he was upset because she dresses like a sleaze and lied to him about having a boob job.
Almost like he thought she would be racy to get him and then turn into somebody not interested in seducing other women’s husbands - that she would turn into somebody more wholesome and faithful, like the wife who he dumped to get this piece of glitter.
I don’t think Mel is the first guy to trash a good woman in favor of a trinket who then trashes him. The fact that his wife is still speaking well of him will hopefully heap burning coals of shame on him and bring him to repentance.
This gal didn’t sound to me like a woman who was fearful, but then again, I only heard a small snippet.
The fact that she would tape phone conversations and then put them into the public does seem like a setup - not like somebody who is fearful or who wants her man to get help.
So my reaction just from the small snippet I heard was about the same as your wife’s.
My wife isn’t taking it personally with Gibson either at this point. She thinks he’s coming under attack and he’s failing to deal with it; guess it’s sort of that she feels sorry for him and wants him to survive.
That they had a mediated agreement isn’t conflicted. That she reneged isn’t either.
Maybe Mel’s rant were outtakes from a movie script rehearsal and she dubbed in her side....
And my point is, is that she could have walked a long time ago if she didn’t like the situation...
Exactly. How would they find a court to try any case if there had to be a trial.
I think that’s the part I react to. It’s sort of the reverse of “kiss and tell” which just seems classless to me. The way this woman is operating is not the way an abused woman behaves. The psychology of it is all wrong.
radaronline has pics of her broken teeth, right after he supposedly hit her. Weird that there was no soft tissue damage at all. It looks like her veneers were pried off. I’m withholding judgement for now.
Without the money?! But this is so much more fun. For her. Btw, now the tart is claiming that he slugged the baby. I think she's getting a little out of hand.
Simply being deranged isn’t enough to keep me from seeing his movies. I only ban commie actors who want to enslave my family & I.
Very possible to do with all of the moves and interview he has done to piece together whatever you wanted him to say. I thought listening to the lastest tapes that something did not sound right almost like what used to happen in school with older reel film tapes when you had to repair one.
I’m in complete agreement with you here! Now she’s grabbing at straws...
Mel has a billion dollars. He can pay someone to analyze them.
I won’t be losing any sleep over this.
It’s all business $$.
Gibson may have been bad, he may have been a real jerk, but he has also been had.
Thar’s money in them there hills.
A judge put a restraining order on those tapes when she let slip in court that SHE had them. They're released to a gossip site and she has no idea how. Honest. /s
Yup. Let’s hope Gibson keeps his perspective as he has talked about being suicidal. His best friend and agent of 32 years, Lamata (sp), just died the first part of July. Hope Gibson has an anchor (friend).
She turned them over to the sheriffs dept yesterday, on CD. They are analyzing them.
How did he hit her in the mouth and there not be any damage to her lips and gums? One tooth is perfectly smoothed off. I don’t see how someone can smack you in the mouth and the tooth breaks off PERFECTLY in half.
Those lips show no damage. She must have needed new veneers before their trip to Russia. Gotta look perfect.
