MANILA, Philippines – Filipino teenage singer Charice Pempengco says she prepared for her debut on the hit TV show "Glee" by getting Botox and an anti-aging procedure "to look fresh on camera."

The 18-year-old Charice, whose singing career rocketed after appearing on Ellen DeGeneres' and Oprah Winfrey's talk shows, underwent a 30-minute Thermage skin-tightening procedure and Botox to make her "naturally round face" more narrow, celebrity cosmetic surgeon Vicki Belo told ABS-CBN television.

Where is your sage advice now Oprah? Nothing like the combination of Hollowood and an over-achieving, perfectionsist Asian upbringing to turn an 18-year-old kid on to Botox. I guess she does notic like her very ethnic features. People will complain about "Western standards of beauty" and "looking white" but impossible standards of beauty exist in all cultures (see bound feet). This is the girl who got famous from YouTube videos displaying her amazing, Whitney Houston-style singing voice, which has always looked a little ridiculous coming from her body.

I would figure that with most TV shows being broadcast in HD, more procedures like this will be needed simply because of the extra details now seen by the cameras and the viewers.

I don’t see how Botox creates a leaner look. Normally it plumps up wrinkles. ?

Actually, Botox works by paralyzing the muscles of the face that cause wrinkles, which is why over-use results in a “mask” type appearance(see Cher, Pelosi). Collagen is used and abused for plumping (of the lips for example—see Lisa Rinna) but the worst cases you may be thinking of are often the result of full cheek implants to stretch the skin (see Lisa Presley). I suspect in this case the Botox is used to paralyze her cheek muscles slightly so that her smile does not round out her face as much. It’s sick how much I know about cosmetic surgery as a guy but it all comes from reading one silly blog one day when I got interested in how Michael Jackson chopped up his face.

I’m curious about the cheek implants. Are these the ones that are literally bolted onto the bones?

Any 18 year old who thinks she needs Botox has serious self-loathing issues. She needs psychiatric help, not Botox.

She looks a little bit like John Kerry in those picture.

Did you know John Kerry was in Vietnam?

In her industry, she’s got about 10 years tops before she’s “too old”. So it goes.

Which again raises the age old question..

Q. Why don’t you smile more?

A. It takes more muscles to frown than smile so how else am I going to get any exercise?...

If she though she had “wrinkles” that would be really distorted, but the goal seems to be to narrow her round, flat face which is a common, less desirable feature with girls of her ethnicity. We can act all superior and enlightened, but we all know what men like.

Hollywierd takes care of their own kind.

"All people will be anticipating how will Charice look? Is she good enough to pit against Rachel Berry? So of course there is tremendous pressure," Charice said.

we all know what men like

This has nothing to do with men or mate selection. This is women competing in a beauty contest among themselves. Women do not go to these extremes for men. Women like to blame men though for everything. It's passive-aggressive behavior.

The human voice reaches maturity around age 28, I was told many years ago when I took voice lessons.

It is ironic to think she might be “over” just when her voice is at it’s best.

In Hollyweird, 25 is the new “35”. Just ask Lindsey Lohan.

We can act all superior and enlightened, but we all know what men like.

There are all kinds of men who like all kinds of different "stuff". She's 18 for crying out loud. If she already thinks she needs Botox, what is she going to be doing in another 10 years?

My opinion, if a "man" shuns me because of the shape of my face, he's not really a man.

I once heard Joan Rivers claim that every woman over age 25 in Hollywood has had work done. I thought, “C’mon! 25? Who needs plastic surgery already at that age?” Now here’s an 18-year-old having Botox. Maybe Joan was right.
