My little brother and I made that mistake one time, throwing a rock and a wasp nest. Running does not help, because they will follow you a long ways, and in a swarm just like you see in the cartoons. And they can fly faster than you can run, and farther. I ran faster than him, so he was the one who got the worst of the stinging. I remember my Mom removing his cloths and wasp flying out from inside them.

I had to do that to my son years ago when he was young. He got attacked by black hornets. He even has a dead one in his arm pit when he got home crying.

He was only about 8 years old and him and a friend were climbing a tree. Luckily they only got about 6 feet up when the attack happened. He is very Leary of bees to this day.

LOL, but I know it was not funny at the time. My cousin shot a red hornet nest about the size of a footbal while dove hunting. I started running and hid when he said he was going to shoot. He got stung a few times.
