Astronomer Dimitar Sasselov and his colleagues search for Earth-like planets that may, someday, help us answer centuries-old questions about the origin and existence of biological life elsewhere (and on Earth). How many such planets have they found already? Several hundreds.

“No one would have believed in the early years of the 21st century that our world was being watched by intelligences greater than our own; that as men busied themselves about their various concerns, *they* observed and studied, the way a man with a microscope might scrutinize the creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. With infinite complacency, men went to and fro about the globe, confident of our empire over this world. Yet across the gulf of space, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic regarded our planet with envious eyes and slowly, and surely, drew their plans against us.”

What do you mean? On Star Trek almost every planet they visited was earth like. There was the Nazi planet, the ancient Rome planet, the gangster planet etc etc.

“No one would have believed in the early years of the 20th century that our country was being watched by intelligences equal to our own; that as men busied themselves about their various concerns, *they* observed and studied, the way a man with a microscope might scrutinize the creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. With infinite complacency, men went to and fro about America, confident of our empire over this world. Isa 45:18 For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited:

Plus:

Hbr 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by [his] Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
Hbr 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God,

=
The other worlds He created were not created in vain either, iow...they’re inhabited too.

The cost of getting to any star system other than your own would dwarf the value of anything you might find there. The only reasons there would ever be for interstellar travel would be knowledge or escape.
