KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) -- The Taliban have offered to exchange the body of a U.S. Navy sailor they said was killed in an ambush two days ago in exchange for insurgent prisoners, an Afghan official said Sunday.

U.S. and NATO officials confirmed that two American Navy personnel went missing Friday in the eastern province of Logar after an armored sport utility vehicle was seen driving into a Taliban-held area.

In a telephone interview Sunday with the Associated Press, Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said the pair drove into an area under insurgent control, prompting a brief gunfight in which one American was killed and the other was captured. He said both were taken to a "safe area" and "are in the hands of the Taliban."

The announcement of 16 deaths of the finest America has to offer was already burning my eyes when I found this. The propaganda ministry (lame stream media) has been preparing us for negotiations to include the Taliban into the Afghan government. With 50 Al Qaeda in the entire country, I can not understand our tactics let alone our strategy.

"With 50 Al Qaeda in the entire country, I can not understand our tactics let alone our strategy. "

It used to be called mission creep or wag the dog. Now with the Navy there maybe we are still trying to find a new route to India. In short FUBAR.

We have no strategy and our tactics are reactionary.

This debacle calls to mind those arguments of a few years ago about "you can't say you support the troops if you don't support the mission". Some of us argued that this is pure nonsense, sometimes one has to oppose the mission in order to support the troops. This is one of those times.

You are absolutely right. We need to wipe out every living thing in those regions and be done with it. There is absolutely no chance of living peacefully with the people in that region. If it were not for air travel I would say leave them alone, but they chose to bring there sick demented perverted cult to us. allah is a joke and all who believe in this fantasy need to be wiped off of the earth. muslims are like retarded children with guns and bombs, wake the hell up America and make islam a capital crime.

Our strategy is to make Obama look tough in Afghanistan.
Our tactic is to have the media manipulate coverage to effect that.

Someone posted yesterday (I’m not sure this is true, but it could be checked) that there have been more combat deaths under 18 months of Obama than under 8 years of Bush, but these deaths are simply not getting any press play. Whoever knows where to look for the stats could probably verify this.

Just from what I can see, however, Afghanistan has gone way up.

God be with that captured Sailor. To be taken alive was about the worst thing one could imagine over there.

Huh? Are you seriously proposing that we kill babies and old ladies on such a Hitlerian scale? Instead of doing that, here's a new concept for you: bring the troops back from this quagmire.

That would be to employ the tactics of Genghis Khan, the only foreign leader who had success in Afghanistan

Or we could withdraw and periodically spray their poppy fields with Agent Orange (or any other herbicide) from the air. De-fund the terrorists and let them eat rocks.

"Were we attacked by smackheads?"

No, we were attacked by people who financed themselves (at least partially) by raising poppies for opium production. Dead smack-head infidels just count for bonus points.

No, but by eliminating the funding source for the enemy (and their supporters in Pakistan) we might turn them back into starving stone-age thug wannabes...which makes them impotent, irrelevant, and possibly easier to identify for killing.

Exactly what is the mission?
Does the President know?
Do the Generals know?
Do the troops know?
Do the citizens of America know?

"...but who wants to homestead the place?"

If the stories are true about the mineral deposits they found, I bet the Chinese would sign up for 160 free acres.
