When your father is a former U.S. President and your mother is the Secretary of State, having your wedding reception in the local pub isnt an option.
Chelsea Clintons big day in a country mansion on Saturday could cost up to £3.2million.
No expense will be spared at what will be the American society event of the year, with the equivalent of £6,400 being spent on each of the 500 guests.
Tents costing £400,000 have been set up, £70,000 is going on tables and crockery and a staggering £320,000 is being spent on flowers, thought to be Casablanca lillies and orchids. Miss Clintons dress, designed by Oscar de la Renta or Vera Wang, is rumoured to be a cool £16,000, and the jewellery she wears on the day is worth £160,000. The cake alone will cost £7,000 and security a further £130,000.

Remember when Jenna Bush got married? Quite a contrast here!
I said years ago when I first heard Chelsea was engaged that the Clinton’s weren’t going to let this go to waste.
This is a big networking occaision for them, along with free publicity and the beginning of their new venture- whatever it turns out to be.
I personally think it Hillary has her sights set on the WH, and Barack better get out of the way. They won’t forget how the lib press turned on them for the “One” - they weren’t used to getting treated like scurvy Republicans.
I agree think of this as the kick off for her to run for 12 kinda like that dudes funeral some years back. I also feel kinda sad for Chelsea
Man, I bet that that cake will really taste good, don’t you think so Mr. Obama?
Imagine the howls of press/pulpit outrage if former President Reagan’s children had gotten married in a $ 5 million bacchanlia with a $ 11,000 wedding cake in the middle of a recession with 17.5 percent real unemployment. I wonder if John Kerry will sail in on his tax-free new yacht or if Treasury Secretary Geithner or Charles Rangel of the tax-writing House Ways & Means Committee will give presents purchased with their savings from cheating on their taxes?
Will the bridesmaids be in blue and wear berets??
My bet is that Chelsea is sedated that day.
Why can’t everyone have weddings like this?
It’s in the Constitution. ;-)
“Slick Willie”:”I FEEL YOUR PAIN”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I met Hillary Diane Rodham when she was 22. Dare I say it? Hillary was better looking than Chelsea.
“Slick Willie”:”I FEEL YOUR PAIN”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Slick Willie”:”I FEEL YOUR PAIN”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
New money tackiness vs. old money class.
And Hillary will slip some salt peter into bills food for a few days before
Don’t hold your breath!
I have been reading comments on this a few times today......people across the pond as well as here are not impressed, there are a lot of snarky comments.......
FUNDRAISER!! They will haul in 5 MILLION!!!
Yeah...she was quite a babe in her youth...

All the money, all the food, and all the big shot guests will not change the fact that the bride has a horse face! Congratulations Mrs. Ed!
I do feel sad for Chelsea, and mostly because, according to the Enquirer (often right) she is terrified her husband can’t be trusted to be faithful.
I’m sure that can be tied directly to the fact that she’s been subjected all her life to a dad whose a serial adulterer, and an experienced liar.
What a horrid legacy - going into a marriage unsure it will be fulfilling because you watched your parents play a charade all their life.
I’ll just be eating cake..
Where's the one with Hillary and the funky striped pants?
You betcha. The mother of all fundraisers...
It would be a real shame if there were really bad thunderstorms right when the wedding started. With golf ball sized hail. Yep, a real shame.

And to think that they hardly had a nickel to their names when they first occupied the White House. America, what a county!
Of course. Politico, for what its worth, tonite claims that the proud father and mother of the bride will stay over the weekend at a huge estate of a young woman who just happens to be George Soros’ daughter. I’m sure the hostess and her billionaire father are doing this totally out of disinterested generosity.
I read too that she is getting panic attacks (I have those not fun )Yeah kinda tough when everyone on the planet knows daddy likes to get a little on the side
Well. There went the old appetite for the rest of the evening.
Daddums Rodham musta had a whole woodshed full of ugly sticks to beat her with as a child.
Just think what the box must of been like
Not even going to start wandering down that road.

"With her major-league wedding just days away, Chelsea Clinton was spotted paying a visit to Vera Wang July 27, 2010, despite a blatant attempt to go incognito."
EEEWWWWWW!!!!!
I'll give her this much...it does look like she's changed the oil about every 3,000 miles.
I hope they are very happy. I hope their happiness drives momma and poppa Klintoon into political seclusion.
But, other than wishing a young couple at least as much success as my 20+ year marriage, I don’t care about this. They can spend their money however they want. (As long as it’s THEIR money!)
JMNSHO, naturlich!
Do you care, as long as it’s their money?
I don’t.
I only hope their marriage lasts, and is real for them both.
(Oh - and I hope they both decide they want nothing to do with politics!)
Chelsea is creating more jobs than Obama
People are hypocrites, but I think plenty of folks will be glad that this sort of spending will allow them to keep their jobs. Think of all the caterers, card-printers, bakers, florists, etc. Of course, by spending I mean from private funds. If this money came from the tax-payer, then you'd have a point.
The cake is only a bit higher than the usual expensive cakes. It’s for 500 people, cost 7000 pounds, which means about 14 pounds per person, or $21. That’s the higher end if you order from celebrity cake shops like those in TLC or FoodNetwork.
Ain’t that the damn truth.
Yep, I read where the Soros clan is involved in the wedding big time.
A real shame.
And it would be just awful if an earthquake hit the area.
