He never takes the elevator up (competitive stair climbing)

Mark Trahanovsky likes the way the world looks from the top floor of some very tall buildings.

He's been to the top of the Sears Tower in Chicago a few times, and is a big fan of the 63-floor Aon Center in Los Angeles.

The thing is, when Trahanovsky visits skyscrapers across the country, the 51-year-old Yorba Linda resident only believes in taking the elevator down. Trahanovsky competes in the growing sport of stair climbing. In fact, he is ranked no. 27, among male stair climbers in the world and climbed the Willis (Sears) Tower in 16:46 minutes in 2008. He's made 17 climbs across the country since September 2007.

"The best thing about the sport is it fits a busy lifestyle," said the fulltime salesman and father of two. "This sport (takes) 30 minutes a day for incredible fitness. I am the same weight that I was in high school."

And the same IQ.

And the same IQ.

True. Most likely.

Part of my exercise routine is stair climbing (for the most part I am a mountain biker and Concept 2 rower).

I climb 30 stories daily at the local college baseball stadium. Good stuff.

Instead of running the stairs, I climb 2 steps at a time...and that pushes my heart rate into the high 150's (BPM).

On most days, my cardio routine includes biking for an hour and climbing stairs for 15-20 minutes.

I do 2 completely insane spin classes a week (on Tuesday and Thursday) for intensity.

Weights every other day for tone and once a week heavy lifting for strength.

Cool sport. I take the stairs to and from my office. 4 floors. Little bit of exercise.

He takes the stairs all the way to the top, because his elevator doesn't go there.

However I will confess to going up 7 flights of stairs two steps at a time when I used to run errands in (what would eventually become) the Willis Tower neighborhood--back in the DDE-JFK era.
