COOKE CITY, Mont. (AP) -- A mother grizzly and two of her three cubs have been captured after killing a Michigan man and injuring two other people during an overnight rampage through a campground near Yellowstone National Park.

The sow, estimated to weigh 300 to 400 pounds, was lured into a trap fashioned from culvert pipe covered by the dead victim's tent Wednesday evening.

Pretty lousey to say they used the dead campers tent...add one more grueling thought to everyone’s memory bank.

A mother grizzly and two of her three cubs

I thought that the normal litter for a bear was two? Any info?

Had it been an MIT man instead of merely a MI man, we probably wouldn’t have been having this discussion.

Black bears typically have three cubs in a litter. Less often, but quite frequently, black bears will have two or four offspring. Even less often, black bears will produce one or five offspring.

The first time a sow bears offspring, she will often bear only one cub and will usually produce an average of three cubs every two years after that.

In food poor years, black bears will often produce fewer offspring due to the process of delayed implantation, which allows bear populations to regulate their own numbers.”

Has the MSM yet blamed this tragedy on Sarah Palin for her “Mama Grizzly” video?

Except that this was a grizzly bear. Completely different type of bear altogether.

They are afraid to release the cubs into the wild because they fear that the sow was teaching them predatory behavior.

Well duh! These are predators, what would one expect the sow to teach the cubs?

Why destroy the bear at all? Its was doing what bears do,
preying on weaker life forms. Folks in grizzly country
ought to be carrying bells, bearspray, and/or a Marlin .450..

I’m really shocked that PETA hasn’t raised Cain about the death penalty being given to this bear. After all, perhaps it was traumatized in its cubhood or suffered cubhood abuse. Even with incontrovertible bear DNA proof, the bear was probably insane or a victim of PTSD.

That just further deepens my guess that the “victim” did not follow proper bear prevention techniques.

If they used his tent, that suggests that he may have had some of his food in the tent.

In bear country, you can tell bear scat from griz scat because bear scat has reminants of seeds and plant material, griz scat has little bells and smells like pepper. . . . .

Bear have eaten men since time immemorial. Only the advent of modern firearms brought man to the top of the food chain.

Commies in Congress violated their oath of office, and the Constitution, when they removed the Constitutional Right of the citizen to be armed.

Armed citizens are not helpless meals for large bodied predators.

“if they used his tent, that suggests that he may have had some of his food in the tent.”

You are correct - he was the food in the tent.

Bears eat people because that’s what bears do.

From the article:

Yet in the case of the Wednesday's attack, all the victims had put their food into metal food canisters installed at campsite, Sheppard said.

"They were doing things right," he said. "It was random. I have no idea why this bear picked these three tents out of all the tents there."

The second grizzly vs. man event near Yellowstone in less than a month. A grizz killed a guy in Wyoming in June too.

Predators return to a kill site, even when moved to a trap the scent would be a major attractant. It is awful to think about.

A woman from London, Ontario, Canada was one of the victims of the attack.
She described that the bear bit down on her arm, she screamed and the bear bit harder.
She screamed again, the bear began shaking her and she could hear her bones breaking.
At that point she had the presence of mind to play dead and the bear lost interest.

Release the bear in Central Park to eat some New York liberals. These left wing eco-fascist bastards have been telling countryfolk how to live their lives for 50 years. Screw that.

Train the bear how to handle a .50 caliber machinegun and let it loose in New York City. If a bear could learn how to fly a B-2 bomber and drop bombs, that would be a start.
