Appearing today on The View, President Obama referred to African-Americans as mongrels: “We are sort of a mongrel people.” Barack Obama, 2010

Not only was he using a term commonly used to describe dogs, Obama was agreed with the assessment of a recruiter for the Ku Klux Klan (and fellow Democrat), Senator Robert Byrd:

“I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side. Rather, I should die a thousand times, see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.” Robert Byrd 1944

My understanding was that Zero said that Americans as a whole were “mongrels”, not just “African”-Americans.

You can imagine what the reaction would have been if a white man had uttered those words. Certainly, Obama is a mongrel with a white Atheist hippie mother and a Muslim black African father. Some of this has to do with the definition of race. I learned that there were four races, but others have created new definitions and criteria. I still prefer the four main races view. If you hold to that view, the vast majority of Americans are not mongrels. If there is a mongrel race, it would be the black Americans, for they nearly all have some Caucasian genes.

That is what I thought too.

We are not “mongrels”,we’re Americans. That is a distinct nationality. Not a specific racial group,but a specific nationality. We are not “mongrels”. I think the racial differences get emphasized to divide us so that we cannot recognize that we are a specific ethnicity. That being American.
