Cool summer: L.A. sets more low-temperature records

The unusually cool summer continued in Southern California, where several new record-low temperatures were recorded on Wednesday.

The 68-degree low at Los Angeles International Airport broke the old record low for the day, which was 70 degrees in 1991. Santa Barbara (68) and San Luis Obispo (69) broke records as well.

The temperature at USC, 75, tied the record low set in 1999. UCLA also set a record, 56 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

While the region saw a heat wave a few weeks ago, temperatures have been gradually going down again as July comes to an end.

June was also marked by gloomy conditions and lower-than-normal temperatures.

That would be the only thing I envy LA, 68 degrees. I opo out of bed in New Orleans to the 80s. I can't wait for November in more ways than one - the elections and hopefully cooler weather. You would think we would be getting cooler by October - not so!

We’re in for a bad winter.

I’d love to send Fornicalia some of this heat. It’s been a brutal summer in NC. Hottest June on record in over 100 years at RDU and I think we’re headed that way for July as well.

The rest of California is experiencing normal heat. Along the coast, though, it has been spectacularly cool.

Heat index of 115 in Tallahassee yesterday. I’m looking forward to fall and winter also. Mostly for college football. Although is usually doesn’t cool down enough to go to a game until the last one in November.

That's why were here and you're there....lol

The weather in southern Californian is worth a fortune to us.

No way we'd give up the best to settle for less.

We had friends that moved by to Ohio for some cheap acreage recently...

They now know why it was so cheap after spending a winter and summer there...lol.

This coming spring they are moving back to California, if his wife don't kill him first..

Yipes! How could I forget about the humidity and the heat index. I believe we are neck and neck with the heat index and our humanity is in the 90 percents. It is supposed to rain over the weekend and bring our temps down to the low 90s. We can only hope. Yep, end of November and football - yeeeeessssss!

We’ve been in the 50’s in San Jose in the morning. I don’t think it got above 75 degrees yesterday.

It’s been a very cool summer.

San Jose is not experiencing normal heat. It’s by far the coolest summer I’ve ever experienced in over 20 years.

All I can say in reply is at least my state’s not *quite* as screwed up as yours. Yet. Despite the local Rats’ best efforts. :)

Actually, I applaud the melt down of my state government... A good thing, much like many other states now....Ya knew it was going to happen...Bring it on...lol

BTW, it's supposed to be about 74 degrees, a nice Pacific on-shore breeze, clear sunny skies and near unlimited visibility!!

Sounds like heaven!!! Every summer we have the same complaint - we are never used to the heat but, that's part of living in the South. Although, I try never to venture out in August - it seems like when you breath, you breath water. I lived in Oregon, outside of Portland, for the summer one year and that was really nice (snowed on Mt. Hood, July 4 - had to call my parents from there). I just know the temp in heaven is going to be around 70 year round!

I should have said Southern California. Isn’t San Jose considered coastal, even though inland? I live near the beach in Santa Monica and, except for a few days in June, the temps have below 70 degrees since December.

OK, that's just pain wrong to talk like that to us Southerners - I believe I heard it was an actual sin! Yep, it's a punishable sin, I'm sure of it.

We're waiting on a little rain this week-end to bring us down to low 90s. I don't think we are in record temps in New Orleans but it sure feels like it - especially with the heat index and humidity.
