Not sure -- I'd consider it, but even at $33,500 it's pretty expensive, don't you think?

Yes -- I would, even at $41,000

Push-poll. Two “yes” answers, one “No” answer that provides a reason different than many people will have, and an oddball answer.

And still the “No’s” are at 85%!

Since when is a tax credit equate to dollar for dollar...Fox news needs to get their numbers correct...41 grand does not equate to a bottom line of 33.5 after a 7500 dollar tax credit the last time I checked....

True, but since it will be various feral, state and local gov’t agencies buying these things, it won’t matter.

In a way, we all have just purchased a portion of an electric car with our tax money propping up GM.

The chevy volt is not practical in any way and is being forced into production and there will be one time tax deductions for buying one. But the reality is that this toy can’t stand on it’s own in a free market.

The car buying public want/need reliable transportation, not a government mandated eco friendly fantasy.

I suspect that it’s going to be a good long time before there will be an electric truck that can pull my Airstream trailer or boats. I’ll keep my Tundra.... It cost much more, but it’s worth it.

Hmmmm Maybe there’s a turbocharged Mini Cooper in my future... for around town and on those days that I want to feel 19 again. ;>)

I will buy one of those electric roller skates right about the same time that I would want to play tonsil hockey with Baba Wawa while wearing a Minnesoda Viqueens (Brent Faver) #4 jersey.

That wasn’t an option on the poll so I said “No”.

someday they will do all that, but they have to stop subsidizing it. When they can do 100 total miles at all speeds with AC or heat running then you have a car.

I have a problem with this. Tell me how plugging an electric car into your home wall, when that electricity is coming from fuel burning sources, is doing any good?? The only way I can see this working is if your home is off the grid with solar or wind power. Then you use that to recharge the car batteries. Now you are doing something, other wise the whole thing is robbing Peter to pay Paul. It's all myth like global warming and Obama is a Christian.

Electric cars will never be economically viable until the whole battery/weight/power issue is dealt with. Having a car that takes a 12 hour charge that only goes 40 miles at 50 mph is stupid. Having a car that goes 100 miles at 80 mph on a 5 hour charge? That I would consider. Having a car that goes 200 miles at 80 mpg on a 5 hour charge? I'd really consider it, if I knew the batteries would last longer than 5 years.

I like the idea of a small reactor under the hood that heats water to steam. The steam powers a turbine that constantly keeps the battery charged, and also charges a BIGA$$ capacitor for those extra bursts of speed. Closed system, very safe, but it won't ever fly because *it's nuclear*, and libs think it's scary.

If I could get an electric car that looks like a 69 GTO, has ice cold air, could go 400 miles on a charge, and did 140 mph, I’d consider it.

I admire your optimism,, but it will not happen in our life time,, the laws of physics require so much energy to do so much work. Only in the minds of dreamers does this work on dry land.

Sailboats are a different story though. :-)
