Death of teen on bike shows risks of expanded use of Tasers
St Petersburg Times ^ | Aug 1, 2010 | Meg Laughlin

Posted on 08/01/2010 5:41:28 PM PDT by driftdiver

Late one night in October, a 17-year-old on a bike was chased by a police officer in a cruiser. When the boy refused to stop, the officer aimed his Taser out the driver's window and fired. The boy fell off the bike and the cruiser ran over him, killing him.

Did the cop changes his written account months later and did it involve a silver flashy item.

How much effort does it take to stop when a cop tells you to? How much brainpower? If the kid is retarded, he shouldn't go out without a keeper or a chaperone.

Had he stopped and events continued as reported, I would be there alongside you --- minus the anger management thing.

“The family sounded pretty much like the people on this thread — hysterical — demonstrations, gnashing of teeth, demands for hearings and firing and demonstrations, the whole usual enchilada.”

What part of tazering a kid riding a bike from a moving vehicle and then running the kid over don’t you understand?

What part of going to his car, getting a silver object, and then crawling under the car and coming out without the silver object don’t you understand?

The kid didn’t have a record. This wasn’t East St. Louis or Detroit. I’d say demonstrations and charges of negligent homocide, planting evidence, lying on his report are all in order.

In the 70s my brother in law was a cop in Amarillo. One day he pulled out a gun wrapped in plastic and explained it was a throw down gun, and said all the cops carried one.

Last I heard Judge Dread was only a movie. How much effort does it take to realize the death penalty requires a jury verdict?

“Or you could watch the video and listen to the commentary. But no its more fun to run off half cocked.”
My cock is just fine, thank you very much, and the video and commentary don’t say diddly squat.

The commentary pointed out he planted evidence and got away with it despite being on video. yea I can imagine that would piss a boot licker off.

Pensacola is a small town. The cop was probably bored and trying to pull the kid over for running a stop sign on his bike.

“Ard would later say that he tried to stop Victor because he had seen him at a construction site and thought he may have stolen something. But witness Victor Stallworth said he saw Victor ride his bicycle past the construction site without stopping. Months later, Ard gave investigators a different reason for stopping Victor: He didn’t have a light on his bike — only two reflectors.”

Yep the kid died because he didn’t have a light on his bike. Good thing he got this dangerous kid off the street. Coulda been a tragedy.

Yes kids getting killed by cops for no reason does make me angry. So run away and support you police state some other day. Too bad you don’t have the integrity to admit when you’re wrong.

Just another rare, isolated example of the 99% giving the 1% a bad name.

Stupidity, murder and felony evidence tampering. All on tape and the cop walks.

As usual.

What a foul person you are.

We see a perfect example on this very thread and you attack me instead of making a valid argument. You probably support killing kids for no reason and planting evidence.

These people don't realize that they are doing to the cop what the accuse some of us are doing to the kid.
And it is the ultimate of compassion and concern to suggest, perhaps, that not allowing cops to carry any weapons at all would assure them and their criminal "children" that they will never be abused by authority.

I wonder if handcuffs are still OK?

‘These people don’t realize that they are doing to the cop what the accuse some of us are doing to the kid.”

What are we doing to the cop? His own department changed the rules and said you can’t use a tazer from a moving vehicle.

He killed a kid because he didn’t have a light on his bike. How can you defend that?

I don’t support bad mouthing sad sacks. Would that make me foul to you?

Yours was the first foul, you shot all Freepers with your own taser.

I don’t support ANY fool who fires a gun, taser or whatever from a moving car, for it’s as likely to hit a bystander or miss as anything.

Yet what this man did was no less than a murder as would be the charge if someone hits a bicyclist from a moving car with a baseball bat.

Your point is flawed and you’re on this thread to argue. Are you a PD? If that was your kid you wouldn’t be so engaging. This is a sad story. When shit like this starts happeninh to white folks you’ll be concerned. Until then. You’ll tow the heavy anchor of “he should have stopped” bs. Its a misdemeanor to resist without violence. You don’t know what happened in this kids life.

No, I commented that some Freepers will excuse any behavior from a police. Some is a word with a specific meaning, look it up.

You owe me an apology.

“The commentary pointed out he planted evidence and got away with it despite being on video. yea I can imagine that would piss a boot licker off.”

And you sir are dangerously close to getting your ass kicked.
If you bothered to read what I posted you would plainly see that I haven't defended any actions by the police or by the victim in this case. I have repeatedly asked for evidence of all the facts being put forth as having happened that aren't shown in the video. And I don't consider a reporters commentary as much more than “one opinion”.
