Two words though: Falun Gong.

One word, "Waco."

It doesn’t say the age of the girls. Maybe they were illegal
in Thailand also. So if the age of consent is 15 is Thailand,
then maybe they were younger. The article doesn’t say
....so in that condition the Thai government might
cooperate with the U.S. government...Makes Switzerland
and Polanski look very bad. No?

That’s what I understand the law to be about

Thailand’s child sex industry is out of control. There are organized tours from some cities in Europe. Many of these kids are kidnapped or sold into slavery and a life of misery. Those who seek out children for sex are the lowest form of animal.

I only wish it was 25 years in a Thai prison, not the U.S.

That process sounds exactly the same as in DC to have a protest. You have to get a permit or be fined.

Can’t be! Cringing has confirmed that we have much greater political freedoms in the US...;)

The realities are that the differences in personal freedoms are shockingly small between China and the US. And differences in corporate and business freedoms are huge - they’re much greater in China than the US.

If I visit a prostitute in Hong Kong, mainland China won’t arrest me, even though prostitution is illegal in China. Uncle Sam will reach out and collar you no matter the local jurisdiction or legality of your actions. You tell me which grants more freedom!

18 U.S.C. § 2423(c) prohibits an American citizen or national engaging in illicit sexual conduct outside the United States and carries a 30 year maximum sentence.

So if you go to Iran and engage in homosexual relations with a member of the same sex, the government won't bail you out?

Meanwhile this same Injustice Department cut loose black supremacists intimidating voters at the polls in November 2008.

Don’t forget the negotiated deal to cut Roman Polanski free for Swiss bank info.

They weren’t girls. They were boys, aged 11-17.

"But how is it legal to prosecute someone for committing an act that is legal outside the jurisdiction of the US?"

Good question. I wonder if the guy kept some souvenir video or snap shots.

No, but my guess is that they'll put you in an institution where you can get that kind of sex every day...then all your problems will be behind you.

You'll find regular protests against the Government all the time.

Would you agree that the Chi Coms make some provision for public protests expressing displeasure with how the Chi Coms run things, but not for calls for changes in the political system? Meaning Chinese citizens can say that the Party has done a lousy job of protecting the environment, rooting out corrupt officials, or what ever, so long as they don't, expressly or impliedly, follow that up by calling for someone other than the Communist Party to take over the government, and solve the problems.

Adults committing consensual sex is not illegal under federal law, so, yes, they would try to bail them out.

This law covers a list of specific sexual acts committed with minors, those under the age of 18 (fed. standard for consent) outside of the US and her territories.

just curious if the law makes it illegal to have sex with people under 18 in foreign countries how about with people under 18 in the US in states where it is legal?

Illegal in Iran under local law, punishable by death.

They should be prosecuted for their act upon return to the US.

Can’t have it both ways. Either we respect local laws or we don’t as a Federal government.

We would most likely have to use diplomacy to try & prevent the execution, but legally, Iran could probably do away with the individual.

The law I quoted would be tried here in the US when the offender returned. Sorry if I misled about crimes under Iranian law, or any other countries laws for that matter.

Have you seen how US Homeland Security and the State Run Media have treated abortion protesters and those critical of government tax&spend policies?

So do we enforce prosecuting Americans who commit crimes in other countries or only some crimes depending on whether we now agree with the scofflaws?

Federal law needs to specify which are and aren’t enforced otherwise convictions will have a difficult time holding up in court.

That sort of sexual tourism is still permissible. Keeps that money stateside.
