I stopped watching Animal Planet when they began giving these enviro-terrorists a platform by airing this crap.

What next, an E.L.F. special as they torch a neighborhood?

If the E.L.F. people are anything like the Sea Shepherds they would all get second degree burns while accidentally torching their drug stash.

He has got to be the biggest media whore in the world.

I wouldn't.

The Japanese seem to have no respect for the natural world.

In fact, most of Asia seems to have no respect for the environment. Just look at the pollution in China.

I'm not at all against whaling, and I'd sure like to try a whale steak.

But at this point, the whales have had enough, and it's time they got a break and a good chance to replenish their numbers.

Whales are facing an uncertain future as it is, without the added pressure on the whale population from modern day factory whaling.

I had never watched the show before, but I was cheering when the Japanese ship ran over the small speedboat that was trying to foul their propellers...

They try to damage the ships by getting a cable wrapped around the prop, then whine and cry about how mean the Japanese are when one of their boats gets damaged.

I'm against whaling but I love watching the Watson Navy make complete fools of themselves on national television.

My personal belief is that whaling is banned by an International Commission. (We can argue about authority later).

Japan is blatantly violating this ban by killing whales in a whale sanctuary in waters claimed by Australia.

If Japan started whaling off the coast of Oregon or Washington I could guarantee the US Navy would get involved fast.

I guess you can call me a conflicted conservative. I eat meat, but don't like to see whales get tortured. I got in an argument with a complete lunatic who was trying to justify ripping a whale baby out of the mothers womb.

There were lots of people on this very website blasting Michael Vick for the pit bull fighting. I was one of them. I believe that killing one of the smartest creatures on the planet is absurd.

The only reason Japan still does it is because they don't want other countries to tell them what to do and no one enforces the anti-whaling law.

Not one person here will agree that the Japanese are doing scientific research, they are doing it for the money. They are getting millions of dollars for the whale meat.

In Season 2 of Whale Wars on the second to the last episode you see a whale get harpooned and suffer for 30 minutes, getting shot multiple times with a rifle, it made me physically ill to watch.

There are many on this website who compare killing whales to killing cows and chickens. I think there is a hierarchy of creatures. There is a difference between killing a human and a chicken.

I will get bashed, flamed, ect... Pan_Yan knows I am anti-whaling, but I do love watching the hippies make fools out of themselves.

If pit bull fighting is bad, then why isn't harpooning and torturing whales?

One more thing to add, the difference between my personal beliefs about whaling and Paul Watson is I am not going to go out like a moron, put my life on the line and others, to save whales.

Paul Watson has put his crew at risk so many times I can't even count. It is simply amazing that no one has died yet. So yeah I'm anti-whaling and still a right winger.

There aren’t any helicopter mechanics in all of Australia? They paid to fly one in from the U.S.?

On a side note, if I do my math properly the Bob Barker is now on their third month at sea. Meanwhile Admiral CoCo Puffs has gone back to Australia at least two times. What a fraud.

My guess would be if a board of inquiry were convened on the incident we just saw both Captains of the vessels that were in the collision would be at fault. These aren't cars these are ships that have no brakes basically so your supposed to stay well clear of another vessel unless you are maneuvering in to do transfers and such.

I watched and rewatched both the Ady Gil collision and this one and I have to say the Japs deliberately rammed both the Ady Gil (which wasn't moving) and the Yushin Maru 3 turned into the Bob Barker, right at the last second because if it was the Barker's fault they would have been T-Boned, the Yushin Maru 3 kinda side swiped them. While the Bob Barker tried to slip through the Yushin Maru 3 sped up, changed direction in order to nail them from the side instead of T-boning them which could very well of sunk the Yushin Maru 3.

From Season 1 to Season 3 the Japanese sure as hell have gotten more aggressive, I guarantee next year either the Bob Barker or Steve Irwin will be sunk. The Japanese caught less whales this year more than any other year, methinks that they are going to have guns, cannons and God only knows.

The Japanese are out for blood and they don't care if they kill the Sea Shepherds. I think this is incredibly stupid of the Japanese because it makes them look like blood thirsty murderers, can you imagine what the International Community would do if the Japanese sunk one of the Sea Shepherd boats and killed 50 - 100 people???

The entire global community would go apeshit on Japan, and I believe that making the Sea Shepherds martyrs will get MILLIONS of people ready to sign up to stop the whalers. I understand the Japanese want their money, but they have no business trying to kill people.

I have watched every episode from Season 1 to now, not once has the Sea Shepherds tried to kill anyone. For the first time I am actually having sympathy for them, and if I am you can bet your average run of the mill person will too. People love animals in this country and if the Japanese are willing to kill humans in order to whale, well I think that just proves that they haven't changed a bit from World War II (remember the Bataan Death March and the Rape of Nanking?)

I am appalled at the Japanese for trying to sink the Bob Barker, you don't kill people just because you are pissed they are throwing rotten butter at you which doesn't even land on their ships because of the nets.

Someone or many people are going to end up dead and they won't be Japanese.

I disagree, the Bob Barker was surrounded by 4 ships that are far superior technologically and much faster. The Bob Barker was trying to escape the encirclement and the Yushin Maru 3 changed course specifically to nail the Bob Barker on the side for maximum impact.

The Shonan Maru 2 was able to T-Bone the Ady Gil because it was a small boat made out of plastic, T-Boning an icebreaking vessel would put the crew of the Yushin Maru 3 at risk.

I had to rewatch both clips about 10 times and have to agree with the analyst guy that the Ady Gil and Bob Barker had the "right of way".

The Japanese want to kill these people there is no doubt in my mind after watching this.

And once they martyr them, it will probably lead to the end of whaling because you will see the world go berserk. Australia and New Zealand would immediately go to the UN. I would imagine the US under Obama would do the same, and you would see the entire world besides Greenland and Norway turn on Japan.

You will see boycotts, tariffs, ect...

The Japanese are playing a very dangerous game here.

They are inexperienced hippies. Why do you see so many young teenagers die in car wrecks? Because they are young, stupid and believe they are invincible. The Sea Shepherds are just as naive as a dumb teenager.

I can't repeat this enough, it is simply amazing no one has died yet, they are the most incompetent bunch of people I have ever seen. They make the DMV look like a well run government agency.

No argument there however the Sea Shepards knew they were encircled so they knew they were crossing the path of those ships when they tried to break out. Further they were far too close to the factory ship earlier. They are all violating standard shipping rules by getting too close to vessels for no other reason than to harass the opposing side.

And remember the Japaneese ships are not seeking out the Sea Shepards, they are trying to avoid them. The only time they close on the Sea Shepards is when they get close to their factory ship and try and disrupt their operations.

I think the camera was misleading because I immediately thought they were super close but then it seemed like the ship was still 1.5 to 2 miles away.

But trying to stop the whaling by blocking the slipway simply won't work because the Japanese are playing hard ball.

The only way I see whaling end is if the Japanese sink and kill a bunch of the hippies, because your run of the mill person won't like that.

Like I said I'm personally against whaling, it's just my belief. I think it is cruel but I'm not going to chastise FReepers who disagree with me, since it's just an opinion.

Would I ever go to Antarctica? Umm no thanks. I couldn't survive on vegan meals and people who don't shower. Unless someone from Sea Shepherd gets killed they are hurting anti-whaling because Japan can play the victim card unless Paul Watson does something obnoxious like pretending to be shop, sending crew members on board harpoon ships...

It would be nice to see a scientific poll of just Americans and their view on whaling I would bet my house that the majority of Americans oppose whaling.

I can understand aboriginal tribes who live on whales kinda like how the indians used ever part of the buffalo. But Japan is lying saying they are doing "research" when they are simply killing whales for profit. They act like democrats.

Either way I do have to say this is the most exciting season yet of Whale Wars, it will be very interesting to see what Watson has up his sleeves this winter. He has huge support from a lot of rich celebrities like Martin Sheen, Bob Barker, Richard Dean Anderson and other lefties.

If the guy had brains he'd get a ship that wasn't 80 years old and falling apart. And get people on there who actually know what to do at sea. In season two they had an ex US naval member, I didn't see her on this season, so I'm guessing she passed, but she was the only one who had a clue.

I watched the you tube stuff the best angle comes from the Japanese cameras. I watched it back in January when it happened. The boat was dead in the water, even those six aren't stupid enough to purposely get rammed when they are in a boat as fragile as a 100 year old woman.

The camera from Sea Shepherd was too far away, however, what was unnecessary is after they broke the ship in two you can clearly see the Japanese using the water cannon on the survivors. If they fell in the water they would have died of hypothermia in about a minute.

Obviously, in this incident you have a choice of two evils in my opinion. Like I said I love whales, hate whaling, but I can't stand loony liberals who act out their feelings and throw rationale out the window.

But would you agree with me that at some point they will sink a Sea Shepherd vessel?

Anyways I'm going to hit the hay I will check out this thread tomorrow. Great conversation.

And to pan_yan thanks for doing this every week, it is much more fun to watch the show with friends than watch it alone with the dog :D

Have they saved one whale this year? Love how they talk about savng whales and haven’t even got close to stop any whaling.

According to the ICR (Japanese "research" outfit) the Sea Shepherds saved 528 whales whereas the Japanese quota was 1000 total whales, primarily minke whales, then two endangered species the fin whale and the humpback whale. So more whales were saved this year than were killed, the most saved on any Sea Shepherd campaign.

I think the collisions had a lot to do with slowing down the Japanese because instead of killing whales they had to deal with the various Sea Shepherd boats.

Anyways, night all.

"I watched the you tube stuff the best angle comes from the Japanese cameras. I watched it back in January when it happened. The boat was dead in the water, even those six aren't stupid enough to purposely get rammed when they are in a boat as fragile as a 100 year old woman."

Watch this and see what you think

It is clear the Ady Gil IS moving and actually Guns the engines before the Japaneese ship hits them. Watch the wake behind the Ady.
