I read somewhere that the best degree is petroleum engineer. Go figure.

This is not a problem. By the end of Obama’s second term, people will be directed to whatever degree is needed by the state. And all pay will be the same thanks to the pay czar.

The people who actually find a job in the field will make good money. It's a job where somebody who knows what he's doing can make $millions for his company, and a big screwup can cost $billions. It makes sense to hire the best. If you're an idiot, you will need to find another field, though.

It’s generally been “best paying” for at least 30 years.

Seriously? Any clue what a PE makes? You can’t go wrong with an engineering major. Pharmacy is a good one, six figures right out of school. One of my daughter’s friends from high school got a degree in Czech languages and studies (or some such thing) last year, still can’t find a job, go figure.

Yeah- I’ve heard pharmacists do well, and it’s recession proof too.

My guys are all engineers of one sort or another. They were all in the minority in their classes. Everyone else was Chinese, Indian, Vietnamese, and so on.

All the girls were Asian.

This is at three different universities so it can’t be just a fluke.

Yes, have to brag my daughter is halfway through her PharmD. I am waiting for her to support me. It’s a field where the demand is projected to be high through the next two decades. Nuclear medicine is another area with high pay and not enough qualified qualified people.

I wonder about fields such as women’s studies, black studies, gay studies, etc. Some colleges offer majors in these fields. But I can’t see how someone with a degree in women’s studies has any marketability in the job market.
