I gotta throw my vote in for The Rutles when it comes to fake bands.
Another one that’s more recent, and up there at the top of my list, would be the band Vesuvius, from the movie The Rocker. No, they weren’t playing their instruments, but they captured the glam rock look and attitude perfectly.
“Up to eleven”
The Mosquitoes cir 1965

“The Irish are the blacks of Europe. Dubliners are the blacks of Ireland. East Dubliners are the blacks of Dublin.”
Jimmy “The Lips”:
“The success of the band was irrelevent. You raised their expectations of life, you lifted their horizons. Sure, we could have been successful, & made albums & stuff, but that would have been predictable. This way...it’s poetry”.
Jameson Wiskey had a contest in 2005 for the best Irish movie of all time and “The Commitments” won hands down.
>>I havent seen A Mighty Wind.<<
Holy cow man! You have to see those as a double feature. The “has been” folk band (The Folksmen) in A Mighty Wind consists of the same actors that played the bass and guitar players for Spinal Tap. Heck, on the Spinal Tap (or Mighty Wind) DVD’s special features, it shows, at a Spinal Tap concert, the Folksmen playing on the sidewalk for quarters. :)
>>One of my favorite movies about a band is The Commitments.<<
It is my second favorite. My favorite is That Thing You Do.
In my bands I refer to those movies all the time, regarding how hard it is to keep a band together.
And it is, for the reasons both of those movies touch on.
On my list now!
lol....yup...
same here.....:-)
