There's an old saying: "A man with one wristwatch knows what time it is. A man with two watches is never sure."

A woman with seven watches has one to go with any occasion. ;)

Notice how the world got safer under Republican presidents, except the last one, of course.

Kids are now getting to the point where they can't even read an analog clock.

When students (sixth-graders) have to go to the office or restroom at the school, they must fill out a pass, which requires writing down the time, Steele said. Often, they stand beneath her classroom’s wall clock and stare at it uncomprehendingly, she said.

I’ve been wearing an analog wristwatch for years now and I’m only 24. I wore a digital one in high school at that.

What’s wrong with them?

My job actually specifies a watch as one of the necessary, required tools .

What kind of job do you have?

On the other hand you might be in a zone that does have coverage. Without a cellphone you have no chance to call someone. And you might get into an accident and not break your cellphone. Without a cellphone you have no chance to call someone. You can choose to take your chances without one. I prefer not to.

It was designed to override the insubordination of a Soviet who refused a “mutually assured destruction” launch order in the 1980s.

What if in the near future, there's a nuclear detonation in the Middle East as the result of one of those countries going to full-blown nuclear war? Would Russia's D-Day device launch towards us?

I was interested in an Oceanus a while back. Do you have any idea why Casio would market a watch that’s basically the same, under a different brand at such a higher price?

I can honestly say no one has ever died because I don’t have a cellphone. Like the NRA ad says, help from 911 is minutes away when seconds count. In most bad situations if you can’t save yourself all calling somebody (with landline or cellphone) will do is let them know where to pick up the bodies.

If you want a cellphone for phone stuff that’s fine, but if you think that thing will ever save your life you’re simply wrong.

I’ve already considered this very possiblity. Our p*ssy of a president will NOT demand that Russia disarm this deadly threat pointed at America.

Yes, the “dominos” method of attack is possible.

Here is a link to the Wired article:

And here’s some background on the Russian who refused the MAD attack command against the US in 1983:

Because they can, I would imagine.

The Casio brand is tainted with a somewhat down-market image. As someone remarked on this discussion of Oceanus:

Every time I hear Casio I can't help but think of that scene from Planes, Trains & Automobiles when Steve Martin is able to get a room for the night because he has a nice watch to trade and John Candy gets shut out in the cold because all he has is a Casio.

Casio aims to escape its down-scale image by rebranding and milk the more upscale market. Not unlike Lexus or Infinity. According to the Wikipedia, the Oceanus watches have a sapphire crystal and a specially coated titanium case. So, you do get a little more for your money. But I'd be surprised if their margin on the Oceanus models isn't much higher (although the volume is also probably much lower).

My original post referred to watches worn as a status symbol or fashion accessory.

I subscribe to Forbes Magazine and I swear about 90% of their adverts are for watches starting at about $7,000.00. I wouldn't wear one if I were a gazillionaire.

I stopped wearing a watch over 10 years ago and yet always have a sense of what time it is and have never been late to anything. Besides, pretty much every electronic device in the home, car and workplace has a clock built into it.

I also consider a wristwatch to be in the category of "feminine apparel" (i.e. necklace, bracelet, earrings). Now I wouldn't call a man wearing a wristwatch a sissy, necessarily, but there is nothing particularly manly about a wristwatch.
