Brett Favre reportedly heading to Minnesota … and Vikings return?

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — A contingent of Minnesota Vikings' players sent to Brett Favre's home in Mississippi late Monday have apparently convinced the indecisive quarterback to at least make a trip to the Twin Cities as the off-again, on-again saga of his possible return for the 2010 season has taken another turn.

The NFL Network is reporting Favre boarded a plane bound for Minnesota Tuesday following a visit from teammates kicker Ryan Longwell, guard Steve Hutchinson and defensive end Jared Allen, presumably to persuade him to return for an encore season with the Vikings — this according to an earlier Minneapolis Star-Tribune report.

WDAM-TV in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where Favre lives, went on to report that Favre departed from Pine Belt Regional Airport at 1:15 p.m. (Eastern time) on a flight headed for Minnesota.

The NFL report added that Favre's official website had issued an e-mail to members of the media, stating: "Stay tuned for breaking news from the Minnesota Vikings today on Brett Favre's possible return."

Favre has yet to announce a final decision as he continues to debate the health of his injured left ankle. He underwent surgery in May to have scar tissue and bone spurs removed.

Two weeks ago, the Star-Tribune reported that Favre had decided to not play in 2010 because the ankle injury had not responded well to treatment. It has been speculated that the Vikings may have asked Favre to take some more time before coming to a final verdict.

It was a year ago this week that Favre decided to end a second retirement and play for the Vikings. He has one year remaining on the two-year deal he signed last Aug. 18.

Kurt Warner approves of one more season for Brett (just kidding - I don’t know what he thinks, but it does help Warner’s HOF chances).

They won’t put two HOF QBs in the same year. Little liklehood any HOF QBs between now and Warner’s eligibility so that will help. His career is a little light in some areas, and he did have those disasterous interceptions in the Super Bowls (still can’t imagine that one got run back at the end of the 1st half - that had to be one of the greatest defensive plays in history).

I was under the sofa on that play - sigh........Warner has always been one of my favorite NFL players. I’ve always liked Favre although I’ve lost a lot of respect with his actions these last two years.

I honestly think if it came down to Warner or Favre, Warner would make the cut before Brett. The HOF selection committee does seem to punish those who embarrassed the league in some way, my holding off for a year or two before induction.

Favre brought to many personal problems into the league, his drug and alcohol problems, screwing with other players with his retire/play crap, the crying press conferences etc etc etc. Warner always kept it classy. They would take that into consideration.

Ty Cobb is in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

No matter how much of a sleeze you are (short of throwing games or gambling on them) sometimes on the field performance trumps everything else.

They may both go in, but Favre will go in regardless (can’t say I am thrilled about him as a person, but you can’t have dominant lifetime statistics without going in).

I was on the ground groaning at the end of the 1st half myself. Hats off the Harrison.
