..over the last few days I've noticed when clicking on a link sometimes the response is quick, sometimes slower,or sometimes I have to click twice for the link to open the new site. I know firefox has been having problems with Flash player, does anyone know if this is related? My mouse settings are the same as they always were and it seems to effect some sites more than others....any ideas?
i switched to opera..it is awesome!
You are citing reasons why FF is my backup browser. It is not reliable — and there are way too many annoying updates.
Since Firefox isn’t a web site, but a program that runs on your computer, the problem is local to your setup and, possibly, the version you are running. Which version do you have? I have run both 3.6.8 and 4.0 beta 3 without any obvious problems of slowness.
Check Tools-Addons disable the java consoles except 6.0.17
I use ff but I just got a new computer so things are running fine for me.
So far....
I just ran an update with FF and I’m up to date
I’ve encountered similar problems and it had nothing to do with Firefox. Rebooting my router fixed it every time; I suspect a memory leak in the router’s firmware.
Yep. FF has become a resource hog. I’m sick of it.
Is your computer wet?
I use Sea Monkey, which is a Mozilla open source project that most people don’t hear much about, much less use.
It’s not perfect by any means, but having tried Opera, CrazyBrowzer, and a few others (I detest Internet Explorer and will use it only to open a file or site that won’t open in anything else - like microsoft, for instance) I keep coming back to it.
I haven’t noticed it being any more weird than it normally is lately. Running XP here - I wonder if W7 or another OS might be having compatibility issues?
Follow these instructions:
1. Type about:config in the address window.
2. Right click somewhere in the browser, then ‘New’ and then ‘Boolean’.
3. Name the field network.dns.disablePrefetch.
4. Set value to true.
5. Close and restart browser.
Browsing speed should be much faster.
Been a long time since I’ve drug this one out...

(It REALLY works)
Don’t know if it will necessarily help in your situation, but it certainly won’t hurt.
I just installed Firefox 3.6.8, and it is much faster than the version I had before. However, some web sites are slow, particularly if they’re running on an old computer in some kid’s basement.
Do you see consistent results?
See reply #5 and follow what it says. If you are using a newer version of java then use that version console. DISABLE any earlier versions of java console.
I’ve used firefox for well over ten years and just recently dropped it because it turns itself into a large memory leak and disables the computer. The same thing happened on my Mom’s computer. I’ve been using Google Chrome and love how fast it is.
I’ve used firefox for years and love it, but it takes forever to open when I first start the computer.
My browser won’t respond to opera. Now some Barry White or Luther Vandross gets it all excited.
I have no issues with Firefox here but one I heard suggested one time that you may try is disabling IPv6 support in Firefox. Scroll down on this link to where it says IPv6 for instruction if you think its worth trying.

Dumped FF for Chrome. Fast and excellent!

Is your computer running?
Wow. THANK you. I had 6.0.20 so disabled everything else. I notice a difference speed already.
No, but I have Prince Albert in a can.
Mine constantly locks up when trying to open a pdf file off a website.
I can’t see Facebook with FF...I have to add this annoying little “s” next to the http and then it will open. I have no idea how to fix it either.
yeah happens here too
I had this problem start after a windows update. Sarafi is also having a problem but IE is working fine.
I was. Months ago.
Then I switched to Chrome.
The book, it is marked.
Well, following one of the suggestions on this thread, I opened Tools, add-ons and uninstalled all those that were marked with the red exclamation marks (not compatible with v. 6.0.18) then clicked on the banner restart FF and it has been nothing but great so far. I was having all kinds of trouble with it being slow and locking up, but so far so good.
I’ve been having similar problems with sluggishness and glitchy mouse pointer the last few days in my WinXP.
I’ve reloaded the OS partition to previous versions and it happens still.
I’ve uninstalled new and recently upgraded programs, but none of them seemed to be the problem.
I think I finally isolated it to a recent upgrade to the telephone peripheral — MagicJack. It had an upgrade a few days ago, and the glitching started. Then, it had a second recent upgrade. Now, it won’t stay loaded. When it is loaded, I’ve notice it frequently running several ‘rundll.exe’ files when the glitching occurs.
It unloaded itself again this afternoon, and the recurring rundll’s stopped.
So, I am guessing that that is the problem I have.
Chrome Rocks!

Go in and disable practically all extensions and plugins that you did not install yourself. You’ll see a ton of Microcrap ones. Disable all of those. Basically, disable everything but java platform, mozilla default, and shockwave in plugins. Even disable adobe, as pdfs will still open automatically via external adobe reader.
Disable everything in extensions you didn’t install.
You’ll be amazed at how much faster it loads.

Thanks that helps
Had crashing problems with last version...now running FF 4.0 Beta 3.0 with no problems...
Thank you for this post, I’ve been battling FF for a year due to freezes/non responses. Tried this fix last night and the problems have totally disappeared.
