All cats may have nine lives, but Christopher, an orange and white tabby who lives at a Redwood City veterinary clinic, also has a sixth sense.
Dubbing him a "guardian angel," "wonder cat" and "miracle kitty," the staff and volunteers at the Nine Lives Foundation's Feline Well-Care Clinic say Christopher can tell when other cats need help. He will sit outside the cages of sick felines until someone lets him in, and last month, the clinic says, he saved the life of a kitten in need of a blood transfusion.
"It's weird, it's really true that he seems to understand things," said Monica Thompson, Nine Lives' chief veterinarian and founder. "He knows when he can help. He alerts us when things aren't right about a cat."

"He'll often paw at a cage door to be let in so he can clean and comfort a cat in there," said Robert Lowery, a San Ramon resident and volunteer at Nine Lives.

He even became known as the "feral kitten tamer" last month, when he asked to be let into a cage with two feral kittens that were "untouchable, just hissing and growling," Thompson said.
Christopher taught the kittens all about being a cat, and within a couple of weeks they were tame. One has since been adopted, and the other is still available.
"The kittens were so excited to see (Christopher) that when he left the cage they would sit and cry," Thompson said.

Your link no work for me. Looking forward to fun kitteh pics
Works for me. If you’re using Firefox with NoScript you may have to let the site run a script or two.
Wow! Wonderful cat and a really great post. Thanks.
Clicking either link gives me this (whatever it is) sign up thingy?
ha. Got it by cutting and pasting only second half of weird link.
Wow, one really smart cat.
Thanks for the ping!
BTTT!
Amazing, kitty! Aren’t there cats that can detect serious illnesses in their owners BEFORE the owner is aware? Seems I read about on FR.
wow. neat
“Arent there cats that can detect serious illnesses in their owners BEFORE the owner is aware?”
Yes, I have heard something like that too.
Hey, and I can see November from my house too, and gosh darn it sure looks good!
What browser are you using?
You’re very welcome.
a kitten in need of a blood transfusion? There is no such thing. Sorry, folks.
There’s flood-stricken Pakistani children in need of a blood transfusion, maybe, or there might be stoned-nearly-to-death Afghan widows in need of a blood transfusion, or there’s stray-bullet-riddled ghetto children in need of a blood transfusion, but there ain’t no kittens in need of a blood transfusion.
Just curious, what vet school did you graduate from and where is your practice?...
Oh, how very noble you are. We all bow down. Run along now.
I had a cat that needed a blood transfusion. I also supplied the blood donor.

A cat with a wonderful name, if he was a human, he would be regarded as a “saint”. :)=^..^=
I’ve read where dogs can sniff out skin cancer.
I’d say he qualifies, period.
Our long-haired blonde feral used to eat a little bit and then gather other ferals from different litters so that they could eat, too. We brought his sister into the house when she was two months old, and brought him in at three months. He has a beautiful spirit!
Obviously a reincarnated veterinarian.
Speaking of veterinarians, our old vet at the Benicia Cat Clinic told us that cats don’t have blood types the same as we do, and that they never have to check for blood-type compatibility. ???
They had a “working” cat who lived there in the office uncaged and “gave” blood on occasion to any cat that needed it.
Although I suppose that if there were ever a problem, the pet owners probably wouldn’t have heard of it.
This was the vet who killed his own pet, Tucker, a Maine Coon who weighed 28 pounds, because of an “anesthesia allergy.” Hmmm...
Awww!
They never retire.
Today, the link works fine. who knows WTH?
Since cat blood used for a transfusion is not usable by victims in Pakistan or Afghanistan, what skin is it off your nose if a kitten lives rather than dies? And why are you reading a cat thread in the first place?
From what I remember cats can get a transfusion once. They then get antibodies. Kittens can die from anemia caused by fleas. They are using cat blood and do not type and cross match. There are way too many types. That is a reason to have a resident cat at the vet.
