Martha's Vineyard man hopes to thank Obama with Jackie Robinson photo

OAK BLUFFS — During last year’s Obama family vacation on Martha’s Vineyard, part-time island resident Tom Murro and his daughter, Lauren, got to meet the president at Farm Neck Golf Club.

This year, Murro and his daughter are coming back to the Vineyard, to try to complete a long effort to present the president with a gift, to thank him for making the time to pose with them for photographs last year.

“Gifting Obama isn’t easy” said Murro, who doesn’t want to chance damaging the gift—a photograph—by mailing it, and can’t figure out how to get it to the president.

The gift is a photograph of Jackie Robinson of the Brooklyn Dodgers sliding safe into home plate in the 1955 World Series, ahead of the tag from New York Yankees catcher Yogi Berra. Murro had the picture autographed by Berra, who wrote: “Dear Mr. President. He was out.”

Murro, of New Jersey, is arriving on the island with the photo on Sunday, and is hoping to raise some attention to his plight so that some intermediary will volunteer to get the picture to the president.

Tom, how about a photo of an out-of-work Ohio family panhandling at an intersection so they can eat? Here’s one, Tom. A photo of a teenager just after her abortion at government expense! Or, a photo of a Christian woman weeping at ground zero for her dead husband while muslim terrorists put the finishing touches on their new 100 million dollar cabal center! Or how about a photo of Barney Frank and Chris Dodd stuffing Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac money in their pants and laughing about it all the way to the bank? Jackie Robinson??? That’s lame man, real lame!

Martha's Vineyard man hopes to thank Obama with Jackie Robinson photo

"Here, Mr. Obama, is a picture of Jackie Robinson. Thanks for illustrating the difference between someone, Jackie, who achieved greatness in the real world in spite of his race and someone, yourself, without even a time in Little League, being put into the World Series as starting pitcher because of his race."

I was going to write something similar, but you said it better. Nice job.

And one more thing, Mr. President: Jackie Robinson was a Republican.

Yeah, King Hussein is really gonna want a picture portraying America's pastime signed by a white guy.

That will go over like a bust of Churchill.

Berra has maintained for years that Robinson was out. It may have been a bad call, but it was a godsend for Berra, since he is now part of one of the most iconic photographs in American sports history.

Nothing in the photograph would have changed, had the call gone the other way, except the caption, "Jackie Robinson Called Out in Attempted Steal of Home in 1955 World Series", but that would have made all the difference.

The President, any President, gets truckloads of mail like this every day. He wants to make sure it comes to the President's personal attention. I say, just label the package on the outside "Nude Photos of Brad Pitt with an Erection!" and Rahm Emanuel will personally bring it to Obama's attention!
