Let's see how many words I can write on four plays. Because that's all the action Brett Favre saw Sunday night in his preseason debut at San Francisco.
(*You'll find out the total if you stick around until the end of this post. The suspense builds....)
The short version: Favre completed one pass and absorbed one pretty good lick, courtesy of an Adrian Peterson "olé " that will make Minnesota Vikings coaches think twice about using him as their third-down back this season. The Vikings originally planned to play Favre up to 10 plays, but coach Brad Childress had seen enough after 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis blew past Peterson and crunched Favre on a second-and-13 play. (And don't try to tell me that Peterson faced the unenviable task of blocking two free blitzers on the play. He chose Willis and never looked at linebacker Takeo Spikes.)
Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell called a draw on third down, and backup Tarvaris Jackson took over on the Vikings' next series. Four days after reporting to the Vikings' practice facility, Favre's only pass was a 13-yard swing pass to Peterson. The outing was reminiscent of his Vikings debut in the 2009 preseason, when he completed 1 of 4 passes and absorbed a pair of brutal hits.
Like last year, Favre accomplished the primary mission of getting his feet wet -- and then getting out in one piece. I imagine he'll play a half or possibly longer in the Vikings' next preseason game, scheduled for Saturday night against the Seattle Seahawks.

Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers’ preseason QB rating is over 150
I used to respect favre.
I liked Webb and his mobility.
This is holding up Tarvaris Jackson’s development as the starting quarterback for the Vikings - which he will be, someday.
I am loving it!
Yeah, however, their window for going to Super Bowl is right now with Brett Favre. We don't know how long Vikings' receivers will hold up and don't forget Adrian Peterson, running backs don't usually last long.

Snoozeville
“I used to respect favre.”
So did I. He turned out to be a real douchebag.
I don’t want to see it, but I suspect Favre is going to get absolutely crushed at some point.
Just like the NFC Championship game last year?
Aaron Rodgers - Go Bears! (As in Cal, not Chicago)
Four plays sure but a full-bore pres conference for the diva to mumble more nothingness afterwards. And isn’t that all that really matters—??
Come back, Brent. We miss you!
No probs. Good points and all. as a non-favre fan, i used to respect him. No, none. He’s jus another NFL dick. Playing media games. Used to be a great player, niow he’s just a turd.
he’d have been a great if he wasn’t a turd, playing dick games.
I have balls. More than Brett, “retired, no I’m not. retired, no I’m notretired, no I’m notretired, no I’m notretired, no I’m notretired, no I’m notretired, no I’m notretired, no I’m notretired, no I’m notretired, no I’m notretired, no I’m notretired, no I’m notretired, no I’m notretired, no I’m notretired, no I’m notretired, no I’m notretired, no I’m notretired, no I’m notretired, no I’m notretired, no I’m notretired, no I’m notretired, no I’m not Favre.
Stupuid games suck balls off
Another famous Brent........

Don't forget Rhent Butler.....
Totally agree on his offseason behavior. No excuse for it. At least he put together a career year last year on the field. I cannot possibly explain the need to do the on-again off-again thing. Many say he is an ego maniac, but he seems like a guy that loves to play football and wants to be left alone when he is off the field, but who knows, maybe he does thrive on the media circus.
As a Favre fan and Green Bay fan, I have many different emotions. Rooting for the Vikings is not something I can do, although I was after the Packers were done last year.
It's hard to fathom the metaphysical meaningless of a preseason QB rating. You have to love packer fans.
On the field, hell, I’d like to see him lead the game (were it not for the fact i like Brady :) )but WTF, are you playing or not? He’s kinda like Roger Clemens, who I also used to respect.
They;’re bioth toast in my book.
Age will catch up to the guy.
Right not, Rodgers is the better overall QB. I just wish Favre hadn’t decided to make his feud with Ted Thompson more important than anything else. If he had gone to an AFC team, or even an NFC team in another division, he wouldn’t have kicked loyal Packers fans in the jimmies.
It’s a prelude to the ass-kicking the Purples are going to get this season. Top sportswriters and columnists have the Packers winning the SB this year. Best offensive unit in the league.
True. No one posting on FR can play as good as Favre..in his 20th season yet!
Lots of big talk sitting behind computers. LOL
Not only can I play football as good as Farve, I can play football BETTER than Farve. I had a better QB rating, I was throwing more touchdown passes, and my pass completion rate was much higer than Farve's ever was. And I did this ON A DAILY BASIS. But then my playstation broke.
NFL ping!
“True. No one posting on FR can play as good as Favre..in his 20th season yet!”
I don’t think anyone is, and certainly I am not, saying that Favre has not been, and still is, a good QB. Until the last few years I have always been a fan of his. I am saying that off the field he has become a huge, ego maniacal, drama queen. He needs to decide to either play or retire, but please STFU!
Wasnt he already, at one point?
If top sportswriters say so, it must be true. How come we never see these top sportswriters at the end of the year compare their predictions to actual results?
“But then my playstation broke.”
Too funny!
*Yeah, however, their window for going to Super Bowl is right now with Brett Favre. *
Hahaha, that window closed last winter in New Orleans.
But you keep right on believing that.
*True. No one posting on FR can play as good as Favre..in his 20th season yet!*
You know, half the guys here probably could have had a pretty decent year with that Vikings team. They were absolutely stacked from top to bottom. And yet, Favre STILL blew it when it counted the most.
Yea that choke against Arizona sure isn't as impressive as some pre season stats.
Worse.
Don’t kid yourself.
Farve now holds a large number of records for his sport.
What did you ever do in your life?
Oh LOL!
The reason he went to Minnesota was to become the only qb to beat every team in the league at least once.
There's a bad taste in my falcon fan mouth by saying this...but better than the saints?
I know that pass on the final play to the back of the endzone to beat the Niners is something I could do in my sleep.
Someone had to be there to catch that pass.
Someone had to be on the line to block the pass rush.
Someone had to carry the ball 30 times for 100+ yards to take the heat off the QB.
Someone had to make sure the other team didn’t score more points than their own.
Face it, Favre found a team that was poised to do extremely well no matter who was under center and that’s where he went. Notice that the New York Jets did jack squat under his supposedly amazing field generalship.
As someone who watched him for over a decade in Green Bay, I can assure you he is merely a mortal.
Well, at least he didn’t break down and sob again....
You could say the same exact thing about Montana, or Aikman or Elway.
Two words: Reggie White
As someone who watched him for over a decade in Green Bay, I can assure you he is merely a mortal.
As his last two final plays in championship games have proven. And, unlike some, I think T. Jackson has plenty of potential. But keeping Jackson healthy and learning isn't such a bad option either. And the whole idea of sports is entertainment. Favre provides plenty of that to lovers and haters alike; with lots of drama mixed in to boot. I don't think there's a single football fan (excepting Packer fans, of course) that can claim their enjoyment of the sport hasn't been enhanced by his annual song and dance over the last 5 years. He also provides huge ratings and money for the league and the networks.
While last year ended in disappointment, it was a fantastic ride that will surely be tough to duplicate. If nothing else, his presence sent the Packers on an also ran's trip to the desert, and a deliciously agonizing defeat that will have Packer fans muttering about face masking for years. Stuff like that is the drama we all watch the game for.
Notice that the New York Jets did jack squat under his supposedly amazing field generalship.
Wasn't there a shoulder issue involved there? And weren't they something like 8-3 before that happened?
*his presence sent the Packers on an also ran’s trip to the desert, and a deliciously agonizing defeat that will have Packer fans muttering about face masking for years.*
As a fan, I’m already over that game in Phoenix [it hurt less than the championship loss to the Giants] and I realize GB fans probably have many years to look forward to enjoying Aaron Rodgers captaining that offense.
The same can’t be said for Vikes fans. They’ve got maybe one year, tops, to enjoy Brett choking away one more potential visit to the big game—I know it, you know it and everyone else knows it.
After that AP will be older, Jared Allen will be older. Percy Harvin might retire with a migraine. Heck, the whole dang team might move to Los Angeles.
A very real possibility. With a lockout looming, it could be the teams last year in town. It's a vikes fan's biggest worry, and something not even hardcore pack and bear fans would ever want to see.
On the other hand, after seeing what a smashing success the Twins new park is, the legislators may just get something built. And maybe Rodger's career will end on the first play of the season. You just never know.
Well, at least he didnt break down and sob again....
I watched the first time, I lost all respect for him then. Whiny, silly and undignified.
