Reminds me of that world war one story where peace broke out around Christmas time.

I remember a story where the lines had been static for so long that the men on the opposite sides had developed friendships and refused to attack one another. All units on both sides were reassigned to other areas.

I believe the name of the song is Lili Marleen, first made popular in Germany around 1939.

That’s a great video and a heart warming story. I’m fascinated by the blue of the Colonel’s eyes.

I am reminded of *All Quiet on the Western Front* by Erich Maria Remarque :
Comrade, I did not want to kill you. . . . But you were only an idea to me before, an abstraction that lived in my mind and called forth its appropriate response. . . . I thought of your hand-grenades, of your bayonet, of your rifle; now I see your wife and your face and our fellowship. Forgive me, comrade. We always see it too late. Why do they never tell us that you are poor devils like us, that your mothers are just as anxious as ours, and that we have the same fear of death, and the same dying and the same agonyForgive me, comrade; how could you be my enemy?
