The Election of 1992: Recession and the Perot Factor

he election of George H.W. Bush in 1988 guaranteed some stability in dealing with major foreign policy issues on the horizon. The Reagan administration’s attempts to drown the communist world with big ideas and a massive defense spending increase set the table for the fall of Soviet Russia in the early 1990s. The Bush administration oversaw the defeat of communism and ushered the new Russian state, led by Mikhael Gorbachev, into a capitalist era. This was the major global change that occurred at this point but Bush and his advisors were more integral to other conflicts throughout the world.

Interesting article. 92 still bothers me cause we don't know how different the world would have been if 41 got another term. No terror attack in 1993? And so on.

What really did that idiot Perot accomplish? He’s less than a footnote in history. A useful rube for the democrats.

Yes, a much different world.

The USA should symbolize stability, not chaos....

It’s funny how the MSM doesn’t realize we’re spending ourselves into mediocrity...

The first WTC bombing happened 37 days after Clinton was sworn into office. I doubt this particular terror attack would have been thwarted if Bush had gotten a second term. Unless Clinton got some top secret info between Jan. 20, 1993 and Feb. 26, 1993, it’s not likely.

I think the Baraqqis will use Sorosbucks to fund another 3rd party candidate in 012 attempting to pull off a Clintonian plurality win.

I don’t see Baraq winning any 2-way matchup.

Perot’s big ears heard the job sucking sound which has escaped every President. Maybe he wasn’t crazy after all.

Agreed. Perot did a terrible disservice to America.

Once defeated in 92, we'd never have heard of PIAPS or the Sink Emperor again.
