So he gets the job? Gotta count for something that the guy was direct about resolving the problem, even at personal cost.

Doggie Ping!

And crazy man ping!

Actually, I don’t know what to think here totally. Probably excessive, but if your dog is being mauled by another, you might think about it. Main thing is if he actually threatened the man himself.

As for my husband, he was interviewing this Snyder for a job last week, and asked a hypothetical question. Basically it was “what do you do if your boss wants you to do something that is technically wrong?” Snyder told him “I’d humor him.” At which point Mr. Rebel dismisses him as a real candidate but “humors him” with continuing the interview.

A few days later Mr. Rebel says he found this bit about the man!

He’s a dog lover. Your husband should give him the job.

So he was pointing the gun at the dog...the 22yo guy was “wrapped around it”?

“Don’t bring a gun to a dog fight.”

I carry when walking my dogs for this very reason. There seems to be more and more dog attacks by dogs that are off-leash - for whatever reason.

I have three small dogs that I walk and if charged by a larger dog there is no way I could protect all three and myself. Hence, the gun.

I can’t believe this guy is being persecuted for grabbing a shotgun to protect his dog. It sounds as if his dog was attacked but of course there is nothing here that goes into detail. Well, it does go into detail about how the kid who owns the Boxer freaked-out and had to go to counseling because the guy was going to shoot the kid’s dog for attacking his dog.

If you read the story in DETAIL, you learn Snyder brought his dog into his home and brought out his shotgun pointing it at the attacking dog with its owner wrapped around it. He threatened to shoot the dog after the dogfight is over.

You might use this as a teaching moment and think about carrying a high grade of pepper spray to break up an attack on your three little pretties. Pull your gun and you may wind up in deep $h!t with the law.

Best post response so far. Pepper spray goes a long way - for various things.

Ya, thanks. Carry advice from somebody that lives in Massachusetts is high on my to-do list. This guy saw his two Bichon's attacked by an unleashed, out of control Boxer. He got his dogs into his house, one at least that had wounds serious enough to require attention at a vets, and came back to the porch with a shotgun to shoot the Boxer in case it got away again. He was pointing it at the dog who was still in his yard, still posing a threat. Such a scenario wouldn't even get to a grand jury in FL.

Pepper spray. Are you sure it will work on all breeds that are attacking you or your dogs? If not should I carry stun gun too? Throwing star? Steel baton? Do I need to get a vest to carry all of this stuff? Ah, I forget. You live in Mass. All that stuff is probably illegal up there. Don't worry. I'll let you know how it goes.

By and large, brandishing a gun OUTSIDE THE ACTUAL THREAT is considered excessive. Coming back out after he and his dogs were in would probably be considered by most LEO as being of the vigilante or revenge type, and there is no detail here that the Boxer was “out of control” at that point to deserve having the gun pointed at him.

Reading the thread, reading the article....sitting safely at my computer....I agree with you, 100%.

NEVER having been in that position, I don't know WHAT I'd do...but I'd sure as heck hope and pray that I had the sense of mind to NOT go back IN the house, grab a weapon...and continue the fight outside. Especially since it seemed the owner at that point, had his dog under control.

Bringing me to the next, VERY important lesson for the day.....(for dog owners).

I don't care WHAT size your dog is...that dog MUST BE TAUGHT TO NEVER EVER jump into or out of a car without your permission. N-E-V-E-R. And, even when you think Fido's got that down pat, you as the owner STILL better make sure it's happening, each time.

Well, we'll never know for sure as the news never seems to report any story with 100% accuracy.

I was going by the fact that the Boxer owner was lying on top of his dog so he wouldn't get away again till his friend could get there with the leash.

Reality is that in Maryland the shotgun owner was screwed from the get-go. A shotgun to ensure the Boxer couldn't attack himself or get away and attack someone else would be fine in many other places.

I grew up in Rockville/Gaithersburg and as much as I love the state I'd never move back.

After having that stressful situation, and worrying about him getting loose near an angry citizen, might you not hold onto your dog securely to ensure he doesn’t until the lead is attached?

If the Boxer was snarling, frothing, wild-eyed, yes, I could see that. MD or not, the guy came out -after the fact- and threatened them directly (not simply carrying a gun), and that kind of behavior is generally frowned upon.

Would I sympathize? Yes. But even a victim can cross the line on revenge.
