Study Shows Coffee Drinkers Could Have Lower Blood Pressure

A new report given before the European Society of Cardiology Congress suggests that drinking coffee could help older people who suffer from high blood pressure.

According to lead researcher Christina Chrysohoou of the University of Athens in Greece, older people who drink one to two cups of coffee a day elastic blood vessels than those who drink less or more.

For the study, Chrysohoou and her team examined 485 Greek men and women between the ages of 65 and 100. They found that 56 percent of the group drank one or two cups of coffee a day and that the people in that group had 25 percent greater blood vessel elasticity.

"We were aiming to evaluate the secrets of the long-livers of Ikaria," Chrysohoou told WebMD.

She added, "We recommend hypertensive patients drink coffee in moderation, just one to two cups a day, as it seems that it may improve arterial aging," Chrysohoou says.

Coffee is good (I like mine black when I have it) but I prefer hot chocolate or green herbal tea. I also drink a lot of orange juice, grape juice and pineapple juice and in summer nice ice cold lemonade. When I drink soda, I prefer Vernor’s, Dr. Pepper, Cherry Coke or Cream soda.

Not one word about a Greek/Mediterranean diet that emphasizes healthy fats, fruits and vegetables in all of this either.

This is the reason why coffee in Greece is good for you. I'll have a cup of Santorini, please.

Hah!

If drinking coffee reduced blood pressure, mine wouldn’t be 100/70! 70/30 perhaps, but certainly no higher. 8<)

(But I am cutting back. Yeppers. Down to one, well - at most two, pots a day. I’ve even put on a few pounds. All the way up to 155 now. )

Wow, that’s a lot of beverages, there.

It’s coffee or diet Coke for me. Pretty much decaffeinated, though.

I do not drink any DIET sodas because the sugar substitutes are even more toxic and dangerous than the sugar itself.
